Final Month of Regular Season Play Begins With Title Chase Wide Open

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

Northeastern claimed its 20th Beanpot crown in program history in front of 13,279 fans at TD Garden on Tuesday. Lisa Jönsson pitched a 30-save shutout and was named Beanpot MVP and won the Bertagna Award as the tournament’s best goaltender, the first freshman in Beanpot history to win both awards.

Boston University bounced back with a sweep of Holy Cross by way of two shutouts from Mari Pietersen, the first two perfect sheets of her career. The last four games BU has played in have been shutouts.

Maine swept rival New Hampshire in a two-game set at home, with goaltender Julia Bachetti making 50 saves on 54 shots to improve to 4-1-1 in her last six starts.

New Hampshire graduate forward Sara Boucher scored her 150th career point with three assists on the weekend.

Providence extended its winning streak to seven straight games behind a hat trick from Reichen Kirchmair and 22 saves by Hope Walinski on 23 shots faced in Friday’s 4-1 win. The Eagles earned a 2-1 overtime win the next day off the stick of Julia Pellerin in the extra frame.

Grace Campbell made 93 saves in a 2-1-0 weekend for Boston College and assisted on the game-winning overtime goal in Saturday’s 2-1 win against Providence.

Mari Pietersen - Boston University

Mari Pietersen (So., G; Goodwood, Ont.) registered back-to-back shutouts in a sweep of Holy Cross, stopping 25 shots on Friday and 15 on Saturday. The perfect game on Friday was her first career shutout and the 25 saves were a career-high. It marked the first time since Feb. 5 - 7, 2021 that BU shutout an opponent in back-to-back games. She is now 4-2-0 this year and all four wins have come in Hockey East play.

Lisa Jönsson - Northeastern

Lisa Jönsson (Fr., G; Stockholm, Sweden) went 3-0-0 on the week and posted a 0.33 goals against average and a 988 save percentage with two shutouts across the three wins. Against Boston University in the Beanpot championship, Jönsson pitched a 30-save shutout to earn Bertagna Award and MVP honors. Jönsson is the first-ever freshman to earn both awards. Jönsson leads the nation with a .959 save percentage, 1.07 GAA and seven shutouts.

Tory Mariano - Northeastern

Tory Mariano (Sr., D; Buffalo, N.Y.) posted one goal and five assists over three games to guide the Huskies to a Beanpot championship and series sweep over Merrimack. In the Beanpot final against BU, Mariano had two assists and four blocks. Against Merrimack, Mariano had a career-high three assists in the 4-0 victory and then posted the game-winning goal at Lawler Rink.

Julia Bachetti - Maine

Julia Bachetti (So., G; Tecumseh, Ont.) made a total of 50 saves on 54 shots in a sweep of UNH, posting a .926 save percentage while claiming her fourth win in her last six starts (4-1-1) dating back to October 12.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Julia Pellerin, BC (So., F; Windham, N.H.) Recorded a point in all three games last week for the Eagles, including two goals and an assist. She netted the overtime tally to lift BC past Providence on Saturday.

Alanna Devlin, BC (Fr., F; Marshfield, Mass.) Potted a shorthanded goal on Tuesday in the Beanpot third-place game at TD Garden.

Molly Jordan, BC (So., D; Berlin, Conn.) Scored the game-winning goal on Tuesday in a 4-1 win over Harvard at TD Garden. She also dished out an assist on BC’s third goal in the Beanpot.

Grace Campbell, BC (Jr., G; Kensington, Md.) In three starts last week, Campbell made 93 saves while going 2-1-0. She posted a goals against average of 2.00 and a save percentage of .939, while picking an assist on the overtime goal against Providence on Saturday.

Alex Law, BU (So., F; Whitby, Ont.) Posted two points in a sweep of Holy Cross, scoring once and adding an assist. She scored the game-winning goal in Friday’s 2-0 win at Holy Cross, her first goal of the season.

Lola Reid, BU (Fr., F; Lincoln, Neb.) Scored BU’s second goal in the 2-0 shutout at Holy Cross, her first goal and first point since November 1.

Tamara Giaquinto, BU (Gr., D; Toronto, Ont.) Recorded three points on one goal and two assists in a sweep of Holy Cross, including the power-play, game-winning goal on Saturday in the first game of the newly renovated Walter Brown Arena. She now has six power-play strikes, the most in Hockey East. She added four blocked shots in a 2-1-0 weekend for the Terriers.

Ashley Allard, UConn (So., F; Ottawa, Ont.) Had a goal and two assists in a weekend sweep at Vermont. Allard recorded her fourth multi-point game of the season in Friday’s 3-2 win, assisting on the Huskies’ opening goal and then scoring the game-tying goal in the third period to send the game to overtime. Allard assisted on the lone goal in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Vermont.

Megan Warrener, UConn (Sr., G; Stoney Creek, Ont.) In her lone start on the weekend, Warrener made 20 saves, earning her second shutout of the season in a 1-0 win at Vermont.

Sara Boucher, UNH (Gr., F: Burlington, Ont.) Dished out three assists in a two-game series at Maine to extend her point streak to four games. Her other stats included two blocks and a plus-two rating. Boucher recorded her first multiple-assist game as a Wildcat with two assists on Friday. The first of those marked her 150th career point and helped tie the score at one in the first period.

Lily Shannon, NU (Jr., F; Andover, Mass.) Tallied four points off two goals and two assists through three victories for the Huskies. Shannon posted a goal against the Terriers in the Beanpot Championship. Shannon then posted a multi-point performance at home against the Warriors and finished with an assist on the road to help the Huskies to a series sweep.

Eloise Caron, NU (Fr., F; Saint-Hyacinthe, Que.) Scored two goals to help guide the Huskies to a 3-0-0 week including a Beanpot title over BU and a series sweep against Merrimack. Caron posted two goals, one in each against the Warriors. She finished with a plus-two rating through three games and had three blocks.

Reichen Kirchmair, PC (Jr., F; Oakville, Ont.) Scored a hat trick in a 4-1 win over No. 12 Boston College on Friday, her first career hat trick.

Jessie Pellerin, PC (Fr., F: Bowmanville, Ont.) Dished out two assists in Friday’s 4-1 win over Boston College.

Lily Martinson, PC (Sr., D; Allen, Texas) Handed out a pair of helpers in Friday’s 4-1 win over No. 12 Boston College.

Hope Walinski, PC (Sr., G; Lincoln, R.I.) Allowed three goals on 47 shots in a split with No. 12 Boston College, extending her win streak to seven games before falling on Saturday in overtime.
