Five Shutouts, Four One-Goal Performances Dot Conference Action

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

Five shutouts highlighted a weekend of top-tier goaltending across the Hockey East women’s league, as UConn, New Hampshire Northeastern, Providence, and Vermont all pitched perfect games on Saturday. Additionally, the Huskies, Friars, and Catamounts all allowed just one goal on Friday, while BU allowed just one strike on Saturday.

Boston College and Boston University renewed the Battle of Comm. Ave as the opponents clashed while both were nationally ranked for the first time since Dec. 2019, putting eight and nine-game unbeaten streaks on the line. The Eagles claimed victory on Friday as Julia Pellerin scored the overtime winning goal. The next day, Callie Shanahan made eight saves on nine shots to help BU to its 10th win of the season in the 3-1 win at #11 BC.

UConn swept Merrimack, 3-2 and 2-0, to remain third place in the Hockey East standings. Tia Chan earned her second shutout of the year with a 13-save blanking on Saturday.

New Hampshire was powered to a sweep of Holy Cross in part due to Shea Verrier’s game-winning goal 15 seconds into overtime on Friday and her game-winning assist in a 2-0 home win the next day. Vermont’s Jane Gervais stopped 52 of 53 shots in a 0-0-2 weekend against Providence, including a 30-save shutout on Saturday in a 0-0 tie.

Shea Verrier - New Hampshire

Shea Verrier (Sr., F; Reading, Mass.) recorded a goal and an assist to lead UNH to a weekend sweep of Holy Cross. She scored the game-winning goal 15 seconds into overtime to lift the Wildcats to a 3-2 road win Nov. 15 and then set up the game-winning goal in the 2-0 home win Nov. 16. Verrier’s other stats included a plus-two rating, one block and 14 faceoff wins. The game-winning goal extended her goal streak to four games and the assist extended her point streak to five games. She has a 4-3-7 line during the point streak.

Tuva Kandell - Northeastern

Tuva Kandell (Fr., D; Leksand, Sweden) led all Huskies with three points off three assists, along with two blocks in a weekend sweep over Maine. She posted her first multi-point game with two assists on Friday. Kandell helped a Husky defensive unit to their third shutout in four games.

Jules Constantinople - Northeastern

Jules Constantinople (Jr., D; East Haven, Conn.) posted two assists and six blocks to help Northeastern to back-to-back victories over Maine. Constantinople had an assist in both games, including an assist on the game-winning goal in game two. The junior anchored a Husky defensive unit that posted its third shutout in four games.

Lisa Jönsson - Northeastern

Lisa Jönsson (Fr., G; Stockholm, Sweden) posted two victories, including a 31-save shutout against the Maine Black Bears. Jönsson had back-to-back 30-plus save performances, making 61 saves over two games. She leads all goaltenders nationally with a .84 GAA and .970 save percentage. Jönsson now has three shutouts in her past four starts and has backstopped NU to four-straight wins.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Julia Pellerin, BC (So., F; Windham, N.H.) Scored the game winning goal over BU on Friday in overtime to extend BC’s winning streak to eight straight games.

Alanna Devlin, BC (Fr., F; Marshfield, Mass.) Had a two-point game on Friday in a 3-2 overtime win over BU, earning an assist on both Eagles goals in regulation.

Molly Jordan, BC (So., D; Berlin, Conn.) Scored a goal in a 3-2 win over Boston University.

Grace Campbell, BC (Jr., G; Kensington, Md.) Posted 56 saves, a save percentage of .918 and a goals-allowed average of 2.51 in a split weekend with Boston University. Campbell also picked up her third ranked win of the season on Friday.

Sydney Healey, BU (Jr., F; Arthur, Ont.) Scored two goals in a split series with #11 Boston College, including one power-play goal. She is now tied for the team lead with seven goals.

Kaileigh Quigg, BU (Fr., F; Kewswick, Ont.) Dished out two assists in a split series with #11 BC. Her first NCAA assist game on BU’s second goal on Friday which sent the game to overtime.

Julia Shaunessy, BU (Gr., D; Marshfield, Mass.) Had one goal and three assists in a weekend split against #11 BC, leading BU in points. On Friday, scored BU’s second goal which tied the game and forced overtime, also her first goal of the season. She then assisted on the game-winning goal and BU’s third goal in a 3-1 win on Saturday. She played in her 100th career game on Saturday.

Callie Shanahan, BU (Sr., G; Commerce, Mich.) Made 23 saves Friday on 26 shots and eight saves Saturday on nine shots to help BU to its 10th win of the season in the 3-1 win at #11 BC.

Ashley Allard, UConn (So., F; Ottawa, Ont.) Notched a goal and an assist in UConn’s 3-2 comeback win on Friday over Merrimack. She scored the equalizer just 64 seconds after Merrimack took a 1-0 lead, swinging momentum in the Huskies favor. Allard had four shots on the weekend, winning 19 of her 25 faceoffs.

Claire Murdoch, UConn (Fr., F; Toronto, Ont.) Recorded an assist in each of UConn’s wins over Merrimack. The freshman forward tallied assists in UConn’s opening goals on Friday and Saturday, giving her five on the season. Murdoch had three shots on the weekend.

Sophie Robinson, UConn (Gr., D; Baxter, Minn.) Had assists in each of UConn’s wins on Friday and Saturday. Robinson assisted UConn’s second goal in Friday’s 3-2 win, and UConn’s opening goal in Saturday’s 2-0 win. The veteran stayed out the penalty box this weekend and has yet to commit a penalty all season and hasn’t committed a penalty in 26 straight games, dating back to last season.

Tia Chan, UConn (Sr., G; Hamilton, Ont.) Earned her second shutout of the year with a 13-save blanking of Merrimack.

Maria Lindberg, MC (So., F; Jonstrop, Sweden) Netted both of Merrimack’s goals in a 3-2 setback to UConn.

Calli Hogarth, MC (Jr., G; Barrie, Ont.) Made 64 saves on 69 shots in both games against UConn this weekend including a 36-save effort.

Marina Alvarez, UNH (Sr., D; Center Moriches, N.Y.) Recorded two assists for two points, two blocks and a plus-two rating to help UNH sweep the home-and-home series against Holy Cross. She recorded her second multiple-assist game of the season and fourth career. She tallied the primary assist on both goals in UNH’s 2-0 home win Nov. 16.

Sedona Blair, UNH (So., G; Eden Prairie, Minn.) Stopped all 19 shots to backstop UNH to a 2-0 victory Nov. 16. Blair made seven saves in the first period and then six in both the second and third to record her third shutout of the season and eighth career.

Lily Shannon, NU (Jr., F; Andover, Mass.) Posted her second career multi-goal game to lead Northeastern to a 2-1 victory over Maine on Friday. Shannon tallied both of NU’s goals, including her third game-winner of the season. Shannon also had two blocks as the Huskies claimed their third shutout in four games.

Alaina Tanski, UVM (Sr., F; Hermantown, Minn.) Scored the lone Vermont goal in a 0-0-2 weekend with Providence, helping the Catamounts earn three league points.

Jane Gervais, UVM (Gr., G; Valcourt, Que.) Stopped 52 of 53 shots in a 0-0-2 weekend against Providence, including a 30-save shutout on Saturday.
