HARTFORD, Conn. - Hudson Malinoski recorded his first-career hat trick and Zachary Borgiel made 33 saves as the No. 7 Providence College men's hockey team earned a 6-3 road victory against No. 9 UConn on Saturday (Feb. 1) at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn.

NOTES

- The Friars struck for a pair of goals in the latter stage of the first period to take a 2-0 lead.

- Hudson Malinoski netted his fifth goal of the season off a pass from Will Elger in the slot. Graham Gamache tallied the secondary assist on the play.

- With 2:23 left in the period, John Mustard fired a spin-around shot off the far post and in for his sixth goal of the year. Tanner Adams made the play by taking a hit in the slot and sending a pass to Mustard while laying on the ice.

- Malinoski struck again just 1:52 into the second period and he circled the net and fired a shot to the top left corner. Logan Sawyer on the strong forecheck, added an assist on the goal.

- UConn struck for a pair of power-play goals midway through the period. Ethan Gardula and Jake Richard tallied power-play strikes for the Huskies to cut the Friar lead to 3-2 after 40 minutes.

- Joey Muldowney knotted the game at 3-3 at the 3:31 mark of the third period.

- UConn's Ethan Gardula was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct at 8:18 to put the Friars on the power play.

- Malinoski got a piece of a Sawyer shot to complete his hat trick and give Providence a 4-3 lead.

- With the UConn net empty, Aleksi Kivioja and Chase Yoder added empty-net goals to seal the victory for the Friars.

- Providence snapped a five-game winless streak (0-3-2) and improved to 10-2-2 away from Schneider Arena this season.

- The Friars are 11-0-2 when scoring the first goal this season.
