DURHAM, N.H. - Sophomore forward Nick Ring (Hingham, Mass.) posted a career-high three points on one goal and two assists, while five different Wildcats found the back of the net as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team defeated RIT, 5-1, on Friday evening at the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex in non-conference action.

The other goal scorers for the 'Cats were sophomore forward Marty Lavins (Riga, Latvia), senior captain Alex Gagne (Bedford, N.H.), junior forward Cy LeClerc (Brentwood, N.H.) and senior forward Liam Devlin (Needham, Mass.). Sophomore forward Ryan Conmy (Alexandria, Va.) recorded a multi-point night with two assists.

Junior goalie Jared Whale (Calgary, Alberta) earned the win with 21 saves.

The Wildcats move to 5-4-2 overall, while the Tigers fall to 3-11-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- UNH struck first at 1:02 of the first period when Lavins sent the puck to the back of the net through the five-hole from the slot. Senior forward Robert Cronin (Plymouth, Mass.) and sophomore forward J.P. Turner (East Falmouth, Mass.) were each credited with an assist.

- Gagne gave UNH the 2-0 lead at 10:07 as he received a pass from sophomore forward Jason Siedem (Madison, N.J.) at center ice, then skated around the defender, and fired a shot from the slot to the upper glove side of the net. Ring also posted an assist.

- UNH started off the scoring in the second period with a power play goal at 3:56 as Ring fired a one-timer from Conmy to the lower stick side of the net.

- RIT got on the board at 10:24 when Matthew Wilde jumped on a loose puck off a deflected shot by Tyler Fukakusa, then skated around the goalie and shot the puck to the lower glove side of the net.

- At 11:37, Conmy ripped a shot that was deflected by junior forward Morgan Winters (Osprey, Fla.) and saved by RIT goalie Jakub Krbecek, but LeClerc knocked in the rebound to extend the UNH lead to 4-1.

- The Wildcats netted the last goal of the game at 2:12 of the third period when Ring stole the puck in the RIT zone and had his shot saved, but Devlin sent the rebound to the back of the net on a backhander for the 5-1 final.

- The Wildcats went 1-5 on the man-advantage and the Tigers went 0-5.

- Whale made 21 saves to improve to 5-4-2 on the season, while Krbecek tallied 31 saves to fall to 3-6-1.
