HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

Northeastern rookie goaltender Lisa Jönsson perfect for the Huskies, as she backboned her team to back-to-back 1-0 shutouts over No. 10 UConn. The freshman netminder kicked out 24 shots on Friday and a career-high 37 on Saturday. Fellow freshman Swede Tuva Kandell tallied one game-winning assist and three blocks while anchoring the Northeastern defense to a flawless weekend.

No. 13 Boston College traveled to Maine and emerged with six points in league play thanks in part to goaltending from Grace Campbell, who made 31 saves in Friday’s 3-1 win and 32 more in Saturday’s 5-1 victory. Abby Newhook netted two goals, including the 50th of her career. She is the 17th athlete in BC history to reach the milestone.

Holy Cross took a 2-1 overtime decision at Vermont, using 28 saves from Abby Hornung to propel the Crusaders into a tie for eighth in the Hockey East Standings presented by Boston Children’s Hospital. Alexia Moreau netted the overtime, game-winning goal.

New Hampshire’s Kira Juodikis recorded two goals and three assists for a total of five points in a home-and-home split with Providence last weekend. In Saturday’s Providence win, the Friars’ Millie Sirum scored her first career hat trick in a 6-3 win over New Hampshire.

Lisa Jönsson - Northeastern

Lisa Jönsson (Fr., G; Stockholm, Sweden) made every save she needed as the rookie posted back-to-back shutouts in 1-0 wins over No. 10 UConn to deliver Northeastern a weekend sweep. Jönsson tallied 24 saves in game one and a career-high 37 saves in game two. Her back-to-back shutouts over a ranked opponent are the first for a Northeastern goaltender since 2010. Jönsson leads all goaltenders in Hockey East conference games with a 1.00 GAA and .962 save percentage.

Lauren Glaser - Boston College

Lauren Glaser (Fr., F; Marlborough, Mass.) tied for the lead among BC skaters with three points during a weekend sweep at Maine. Glaser dished out two assists this weekend while also scoring the game-winning goal in Saturday’s 3-1 victory. It was the second tally of her career.

Tuva Kandell - Northeastern

Tuva Kandell (Fr., D; Leksand, Sweden) tallied one assist and three blocks while she helped anchor a Husky defensive unit that posted back-to-back shutouts over No. 10 UConn. Kandell’s assist came on the game-winning goal at UConn.

Abby Hornung - Holy Cross

Grace Campbell (Jr., G; Kensington, Md.) allowed just goals during a weekend sweep of Maine, making 31 saves in a 3-1 Friday win and 32 in Saturday’s victory. Campbell ended the weekend with a save percentage of .969. She now has won her last six starts and made at least 31 saves in three of her last four games. She is 7-2-0 on the year and has allowed just one goal in five of those nine starts.

Abby Hornung (Jr., G; Ashland, Mass.) made 28 saves in a 2-1 overtime win at Vermont.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Abby Newhook, BC (Sr., F; St. John’s, Newfoundland) Tied for a team-high three points during a road sweep at Maine. On Friday, she dished out the game-winning assist in a 3-1 victory, and on Saturday, she had two goals in the 5-1 triumph. Newhook’s first goal was the 50th of her career she is the 17th athlete in program history to reach the milestone.

Molly Jordan, BC (So., D; Berlin, Conn.) Handed out her sixth assist of the season in Saturday’s 5-1 road win at Maine.

Christina Vote, BU (Sr., F; Arlington, Mass.) Recorded four assists in an unbeaten weekend against Merrimack, dishing out three helpers in a 5-1 win on Friday, all on the first three goals. She ended the weekend with a plus-three rating and is currently riding a six-game point streak (10a).

Kaileigh Quigg, BU (Fr., F; Keswick, Ont.) Fired four shots on net and won three of eight faceoffs in an 1-0-1 weekend.

Julia Shaunessy, BU (Gr., D; Marshfield, Mass.) Dished out two assists to help BU extend its unbeaten streak to nine games (8-0-1).

Callie Shanahan, BU (Sr., G; Commerce, Mich.) Made 15 saves on 16 shots at Merrimack in a 5-1 win on Friday and added five more in a 3-3 tie while stopping all Merrimack attempts in the shootout. She now has seven wins in net this season.

Alexia Moreau, HC (Jr., F; Louiseville, Que.) Netted the overtime, game-winning goal to lift the Crusaders to a 2-1 win at Vermont on Saturday.

Emilie Fortunato, HC (Sr., D; Laval, Que.) Blocked four shots in a 2-1 overtime win at Vermont.

Chloe Goofers, MC (Fr., F; Leduc, Alta.) Scored twice in Merrimack’s 3-3 tie on Saturday at Boston University, helping the Warriors to snap the Terriers’ eight-game winning streak. She added an assist on Friday.

Calli Hogarth, MC (Jr., G; Barrie, Ont.) Made a season high 38 saves in Merrimack’s 3-3 tie with Boston University on Saturday. She also picked up her first ever NCAA assist on Maria Lindberg’s tying goal.

Kira Juodikis, UNH (Sr., F; LaSalle, Ont.) Recorded two goals and three assists for a total of five points in a home-and-home split with Providence last weekend. She matched her career high of two assists and scored a goal for a season-high three points to lift UNH to a 7-3 win on Friday. Juodikis followed that with another multiple-point game with a goal and an assist. She also had a plus-two rating and one blocked shot.

Marina Alvarez, UNH (Sr., D; Center Morches, N.Y.) Recorded four blocks in both games of the home-and-home split against Providence. She also recorded a goal and assist in the 7-3 win last Friday.

Millie Sirum, PC (Gr., F; Oslo, Norway) Scored her first career hat trick in a 6-3 win over New Hampshire. She added an assist in Friday’s road setback.
