HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

In a full weekend of league play, there were three series splits, while nine of 10 teams earned points. While Boston College sits in first place with 20 points through 10 games, teams up and down the Army ROTC Standings remain in striking distance with games in hand.

UConn extended its winning streak to six games, sweeping Maine on the road. Jada Habisch scored three goals, including both game-winning strikes, and Tia Chan made 55 saves, including a 21-save shutout, and allowed just one goal. Habisch now has four consectutive game-winning goals.

Boston College first-year phenom Sammy Taber continued her hot streak, scoring one goal and adding four assists in a weekend split at Vermont. She is now tied for the conference lead with 11 points on three goals and eight assists. Vermont’s Natalie Mlynkova potted two goals and tallied two assists while Sydney Correa made 33 saves in a 3-2 win in her first start of the season.

Boston University and New Hampshire split a weekend set, with the road team claiming victory in each outing. Boston University’s Catherine Foulem scored a goal in each game while Kira Juodikis recorded four points on a game-winning goal and three assists for UNH.

Providence and Northeastern each took three points from a home-and-home series as the two teams are separated by just four points in Army ROTC Hockey East Standings while the Friars have two games in hand.

Jada Habisch - UConn

Jada Habisch (Sr., F; Buffalo, Minn.) scored three goals, including both game-winning strikes, to help power the Huskies’ offense to a two-game sweep at Maine. Habisch is now on a four-game scoring streak and has six goals and seven points in her last six outings, all wins for UConn. She has scored the last four game-winning goals for the Huskies

Sammy Taber - Boston College

Sammy Taber (Fr., F; Tewksbury, Mass.) scored one goal and added four assists, including a game-winning helper, in a weekend split at No. 13 Vermont. Her four helpers led the NCAA and her five points topped all of Hockey East last weekend and was second in the NCAA. She is now tied for the conference lead with 11 points on three goals and eight assists.

Andi Calderone - Boston University

Andi Calderone (Sr., D; Kirkland, Que.) converted twice on the power play in a 5-3 win at New Hampshire, netting the game-winning goal. Calderone now has a career-best four goals this season and blocked two shots in the weekend split with the Wildcats.

Tia Chan - UConn

Tia Chan, UConn (Sr., G; Hamilton, Ont.) went 2-0-0 in a weekend sweep of Maine, including Friday’s 21-save shutout in a 1-0 victory. In two starts, Chan made 55 saves while allowing just one goal. Chan has now alllowed one goal in her last three starts, including two 1-0 wins, while making 75 saves.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Abby Newhook, BC (Jr., F; St. John’s, N.L.) Poured in three goals and added an an assist in a split weekend at No. 13 Vermont. Newhook got the scoring started for the Eagles on Friday and Saturday, and kick-started six unanswered goals on Friday in a 6-3 win.

Julia Pellerin, BC (Fr., F; Windham, N.H.) Had two goals and two assists at No. 13 Vermont and is now tied for second in Hockey East with nine points (5g, 4a). Pellerin scored what would be the game-winning goal in Friday’s 6-3 victory over No. 13 Vermont.

Catherine Foulem, BU (Sr., F; Dieppe, N.B.) Scored a goal in each game of a weekend split with UNH, including a shorthanded strike and won 16 faceoffs in the series.

Neely Nicholson, BU (Fr., F; Pittsburgh, Pa.) Picked up her first collegiate assist on Friday against New Hampshire.

Bryn Saarela, HC (Sr., F; Denver, Colo.) Scored her first goal of the season to tie Friday’s eventual 2-2 draw at Merrimack at one. She also scored the second goal in shootouts in the same game to help the Crusaders earn the extra point in the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings.

Casey Borgiel, HC (So., D; Port Huron, Mich.) Had two assists in Friday’s 2-2 draw at Merrimack and added another helper on Saturday. She leads the Crusaders with the most assists, nine, on the season.

Kira Juodikis, UNH (Jr., F; LaSalle, Ont.) Recorded four points on a goal and three assists in a split series against Boston University. Her lone tally gave UNH a 3-0 lead and proved to be the game-winner in a 4-2 road win in the series opener at Walter Brown Arena. Juodikis also had the primary assist on the tally that gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead. The next day, Juodikis matched her career high of two assists.

Shea Verrier, UNH (Jr., F; Reading, Mass.) Matched her career high with two goals coming just 91 seconds apart in the third period on Saturday against BU. She added an assist for a career-best three points.

Allie Lalonde, NU (Fr., F; Irvine, Calif.) Posted a career-high three points (2g, 1a) to lead Northeastern to a 6-1 victory over Providence on Friday. Lalonde tallied her first-ever multi-goal game and one assist against the Friars. Her eight points are tied for third-most among all Hockey East freshmen.

Tory Mariano, NU (Jr., D; Buffalo, N.Y.) Registerd a career-best two points off one goal and one assist in a 6-1 victory over Providence. Mariano’s goal marked her first career power-play tally. Mariano also posted one block in a 3-1 setback against the Friars.

Maddy Coene, PC (Sr., F; Clayton, N.Y.) Tallied two points in Saturday’s 3-1 win against Northeastern. Her first being the Friars first goal of the day and the second being an assist on the game-winning goal.

Natalie Mlynkova, UVM (Sr., F; Zlin, Czechia) Potted two goals and tallied two assists in a weekend split with No. 15 Boston College. With her two goals, Mlýnková now has seven Hockey East goals on the season, earn- ing a share of the top conference scorer

Maddy Skelton, UVM (Sr., F; Isanti, Minn.) Netted two goals over the weekend to earn a series split with No. 15 Boston College. She potted the unassisted game-winning goal with 2:15 remaining in the third period on Saturday afternoon to lift the Catamounts over the Eagles.

Sydney Correa, UVM (Jr., G; Georgetown, Mass.) In her first start of the season, Correa made 33 saves to lead Vermont to a 3-2 win over first place and 15th-ranked Boston College Saturday evening. The 33 saves were a career-high for the junior.
