HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

Frozen Fenway 2023 proved to be a significant success over the weekend, welcoming over 25,000 fans across two days of college hockey competition. The women’s double-header on Friday saw 2,800 fans watch Holy Cross claim victory at America’s most beloved ballpark, the first iteration of the event since 2017.

Alexia Moreau scored the game-winning goal at 17:07 of the third period, snapping an 18-game winless streak for Holy Cross. It was her fifth goal of the year. Madison Beck made 24 saves, including eight in the third period, to secure the win and now has a .920 save percentage in 17 starts.

Northeastern’s Chloe Aurard entered the top five career leaders in points scored in Hockey East play after one goal and three assists in a 6-0 win over Boston University on Sunday during the Hockey East Game of the Week on NESN.

Jessie McPherson became Vermont’s all-time wins leader with her 32nd and 33rd career victory for the Catamounts. She made 41 saves on 42 shots from No. 9 Providence.

Boston College swept Maine in a pair of games at Chestnut Hill. Kelly Browne scored three goals and added an assist for four points. She won a league-leading 27 face-offs and fired nine shots on goal to go with a plus-three rating.

Chloe Aurard - Northeastern

Chloe Aurard (Gr., F; Villard-De-Lans, France) posted four points off one goal and three assists to lead Northeastern to a 6-0 victory over BU on Sunday. Aurard posted her 100th career assist during the game and also entered Hockey East’s career top-five in scoring. She is second in league scoring with 25 points on the season.

Alexia Moreau - Holy Cross

Alexia Moreau (Fr., F; Lousieville, Que.) scored the game winning goal against Boston University in a 3-2 win at Frozen Fenway. It marked her fifth goal of the season and snapped a 18-game winless skid for the Crusaders.

Cayla Barnes - Boston College

Cayla Barnes (Sr., D; Eastvale, Calif.) helped BC to a sweep of Maine, recording one goal and one assist for two points while finishing a plus-four. She anchored a defense that limited opponents to just two goals on the weekend and added two blocked shots and two shots on goal.

Jessie McPherson - Vermont

Jessie McPherson (Jr., G; Chatham, Ont.) stopped 41 of the 42 shots she faced this weekend as Vermont swept No. 9 Providence. On Friday night she made 16 saves and earned her second shutout of the season. On Saturday she made 25 saves and became UVM’s all-time leader in wins with her 33rd career win 4-1 over PC.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Kelly Browne, BC (Gr., F; Burlington, Mass.) Scored three goals and added an assist for four points in BC’s two-win week over Maine. She scored twice on Thursday and had one goal and added a power-play assist on Friday. She won a league-leading 27 face-offs and fired nine shots on goal to go with a plus-three rating.

Grace Campbell, BC (Fr., G; Kensington, Md.) Made 31 saves in BC’s 4-1 win over Maine on Friday, including 14 in the second period for a .969 save percentage.

Abigail Levy, BC (Gr., G; Congers, N.Y.) Made 35 saves in BC’s 4-1 win over Maine on Thursday, including 14 in the third period alone for a .972 save percentage.

Casey Borgiel, HC (Fr., D; Port Huron, Mich.) Netted the first goal for the Crusaders putting Holy Cross up 1-0 early against Boston University at Frozen Fenway. Borgiel holds the most points of any defenseman on the team with two goals and four assists.

Madison Beck, HC (Jr., G; Lunenburg, N.S.) Helped Holy Cross to a historic victory at Frozen Fenway with her performance between the pipes. She made 24 saves, including eight in the third period, to secure a 3-2 win over Boston University. She holds a .920 save percentage after 17 starts.

Katie Kaufman, MC (Sr., F; Lake Elmo, Minn.) Found the back of the net twice last weekend in her home state, once against Minnesota and one against St. Cloud as the Warriors competed in the first-ever East/West Showdown.

Payten Evans, MC (Fr., D; Calgary, Alta.) Had two assists this weekend against Minnesota and St. Cloud State, one in each game.

Teghan Inglis, MC (Sr., D; Okotoks, Alta.) Dished out one assist and blocked eight shots in Merrimack’s setback to Minnesota on Friday.

Emma Gorski, MC (Sr., G; Wallaceburg, Ont.) Made 51 saves over two games against Minnesota and St. Cloud last weekend.

Gwyneth Philips, NU (Sr., G; Athens, Ohio) Recorded 18 saves against BU en route to her sixth shutout of the season on Sunday in a 6-0 victory. Philips is tied for second in the nation with six shutouts and leads Hockey East with a 0.87 GAA and .957 save percentage.

Lara Beecher, UVM (Fr., F; Buffalo, N.Y.) Had her first career multi-goal game against No. 9 Providence Friday as the Catamounts defeated the Friars, 2-0. It was also her third game-winning goal of the season. On Saturday she added another tally as UVM swept the weekend series with a 4-1 win.
