Northeastern, Vermont Offenses Explode

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

Northeastern extended its lead in the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings to eight points (26) with a two-game sweep of New Hampshire. Maureen Murphy exploded for six points (4g, 2a) including two game-winning goals and a hat trick.

Providence took five of six points in league play from Boston University, thanks in part to three points from Sara Hjalmarsson. She finished the sweep of the Terriers with three points (2g, 1a), including the game-winning-goal on Friday at 2:37 of overtime. The following day, Hjalmarsson added an additional assist.

UConn swept #15 Boston College in a home-and-home series, taking a 1-0 win off an 18-save shutout from Tia Chan and the decisive tally from Jada Habsich.

Vermont kept pace with the Friars in the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings with a weekend sweep of its own, taking down Maine with an explosion of 13 goals in a pair of road games. Natalie Mlynkova registered a hat trick in Friday’s 6-1 win and added a fourth tally in Saturday’s 7-2 victory.

Merrimack swept Holy Cross to launch into seventh place in the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings with 10 points on a 3-6-1 record. Emma Gorski pitched a 20-save shutout, her first of the season, in Friday night’s 4-0 victory over the Crusaders while captain Katie Kaufman played hero on Saturday. She recorded a two-point outing (1g, 1a) in Saturday’s 3-2 victory, her tally proving to be the game-winning strike.

Maureen Murphy - Northeastern

Maureen Murphy (Gr., F; Buffalo, N.Y.) tallied four goals, including both game-winning strikes, and two assists in a six-point weekend for the Huskies in a sweep of New Hampshire. On Friday, Murphy posted a goal and an assist and followed it up with a four-point outing and her seventh career hat trick on Saturday.

Brooke Campbell (Fr., F; Essex, Ont.) opened the scoring Saturday’s 3-1 win at #15 Boston College. She also won 50% of her faceoffs in the weekend sweep

Maude Poulin-Labelle - Northeastern

Maude Poulin-Labelle (Gr., D; Sherbrooke, Que.) registered four assists in the Huskies’ weekend sweep over New Hampshire. Poulin-Labelle tallied three helpers in Saturday’s 8-2 victory and helped her team to its third shutout of the season in a 5-0 win on Friday. Additionally, she posted two blocks over both games.

Emma Gorski - Merrimack

Tia Chan (So., G; Hamilton, Ont.) made 42 total saves while allowing just one goal in a 2-0-0 weekend over #15 Boston College. Her performance included an 18-save shutout of the Eagles Friday Night in Storrs, to earn her second consecutive Goaltender of the Week nod.

Emma Gorski (Sr., G; Wallaceburg, Ont.) pitched a 20-save shutout, her first of the season, in Friday night’s 4-0 victory over Holy Cross.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Catherine Foulem, BU (Jr., F; Dieppe, N.B.) Scored a goal in both games against Providence last weekend, her first two tallies of the year. She now has five points (2g, 3a) on the season and is riding a three-game point streak.

Coryn Tormala, UConn (Sr., F; Chassell, Mich.) Assisted on the lone goal in Friday night’s game, helping UConn to a 1-0 win over #15 Boston College, and scored an insurance power-play strike in Saturday’s 3-0 win to seal the weekend sweep for the Huskies.

Ainsley Svetek, UConn (Sr., D; Burlington, Ont.) Anchored a defense that allowed just one goal across a two-game sweep of #15 Boston College. Svetek had four blocked shots over the weekend and had a plus- one rating in both games for UConn.

Katie Kaufman, MC (Sr., F; Lake Elmo, Minn.) Recorded a two-point outing (1g, 1a) in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Holy Cross. Her tally proved to be the game-winning strike.

Emily Oosterveld, MC (Jr., F; Waterdown, Ont.) Scored two goals and added an assist in a weekend sweep of Holy Cross.

Madison Oelkers, MC (Sr., F; Warroad, Minn.) Had three points weekend, two goals and one assist, including the game-winning goal in Friday’s 4-0 win.

Calli Hogarth, MC (Fr., G; Barrie, Ont.) Made 31 saves in Merrimack’s 3-2 victory over Holy Cross on Saturday.

Raice Szott, MC (Jr., D; Daysland, Alta.) Collected two points this weekend against Holy Cross, one assist in each game.

Gwyneth Philips, NU (Sr., G; Athens, Ohio) Posted 39 saves in a 2-0-0 weekend sweep over New Hampshire. Philips had an 11-save shutout on Friday, which marked her third shutout of the season. She then followed it up with a 28-save performance in Saturday’s 8-2 victory.

Sara Hjalmarsson, PC (Gr., F; Bankeryd, Sweden) Finished the weekend sweep of Boston University with three points (2g, 1a), including the game-winning-goal on Friday at 2:37 of overtime. The following day, Hjalmarsson added an additional assist to her two points from Friday night.

Evelyne Blais-Savoie, UVM (So., F; San Jose, Calif.) Scored three goals and added an assist for four points in Vermont’s weekend sweep of Maine.

Natalie Mlynkova, UVM (Jr., F; Zlin, Czech Republic) Netted four goals, including a hat trick in Friday’s 6-1 win over Maine. Her offensive output pushed the Catamounts to a weekend sweep of the Black Bears.
