Six Hockey East Teams Receive Votes in National Polls

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

Northeastern’s Alina Mueller became Hockey East’s all time career assists leader with her 85th helper in league play over the weekend, surpassing the previous record of 84 held by former Husky Kendall Coyne.

Maine and Northeastern split a weekend set at Alfond Arena. After a 6-1 win on Friday that saw Mueller set a new Hockey East standard for assists, it was the Black Bears to took a 1-0 victory on Saturday. Jorden Mattison earned the second shutout of her career, stopping all 33 shots she faced.

Boston College swept rival Boston University in the first Battle of Comm. Ave of the 2022-23 season. Hannah Bilka continued her torrid start to the year, racking up five points (2g, 3a) to power the offense. She is now tied with teammate Abby Newhook for the league lead with 10 points in just four games played.

Providence pushed its winning streak to six games with a two-game sweep of New Hampshire, thanks in part to two goals from rookie Reichen Kirchmair. She has potted six goals in the first six games of her NCAA career.

UConn took five league points from Merrimack as defender Claire Peterson scored a goal and added an assist, both on the power-play, in Friday’s 3-0 win at Merrimack. On Saturday, she was the lone goal scorer in the shootout to deliver UConn the extra point in the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings.

Hannah Bilka - Boston College

Hannah Bilka (Sr., F; Coppell, Texas) racked up five points in a two-win weekend for BC against BU with two goals and three assists. She had an assist on Friday night and then registered a four-point outing with two goals and two assists in a win on Saturday in which she netted the game-winning goal. Bilka led BC with nine shots on net while registering three blocked shots and a plus-four rating and reached 100 career points on the weekend.

Reichen Kirchmair - Providence

Reichen Kirchmair (Fr., F; Oakville, Ont.) found the back of the net twice in a weekend sweep of UNH. The rookie forward now has six goals in six games to start her NCAA career and has helped the Friars stretch their winning streak to six straight.

Alexie Guay - Boston College

Alexie Guay (Sr., D: Magog, Que.) had a two-goal game in a 5-4 win over BU on Saturday and helped contribute to a shutout of the Terriers on Friday night. She finished the weekend with two points, eight shots on goal, a team-best eight blocked shots, and a plus-four rating.

Jorden Mattison - Maine

Jorden Mattison (Jr., G; Fenwick, Ont.) earned the second shutout victory of her career, stopping all 33 shots she faced from #3/3 Northeastern to deliver a 1-0 win for Maine.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Abigail Levy, BC (Gr., G; Congers, N.Y.) Made 29 stops for her second shutout of the season in a 3-0 win over Boston University on Friday night, including 25 saves over the final two periods, 12 and 13 each.

Coryn Tormala, UConn (Sr., F; Chassell, Mich.) Netted a goal and added an assist in a 1-0-1 weekend for UConn in Hockey East play. The Huskies earned the extra point with a shootout win on Saturday.

Brooke Campbell, UConn (Fr., F; Essex, Ont.) Found the back of the net with 4:09 left in the game on Saturday to force overtime against Merrimack. The Huskies went on to win the shootout and earn an extra point in league play.

Claire Peterson, UConn (Jr., D; San Jose, Calif.) Was instrumental in UConn’s five-point weekend in league play, scoring a goal and adding an assist in Friday’s 3-0 win at Merrimack. Both points came on the power-play. On Saturday, she was the lone goal scorer in the shootout to deliver UConn the extra point in the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings.

Tia Chan. UConn (So., G; Hamilton, Ont.) Made a total of 37 saves in a 1-0-1 weekend against Merrimack. She also denied each shootout attempt on Saturday to help deliver a five-point weekend for the Huskies.

Grace Heiting, ME (Gr., F; Woodbury, Minn.) Netted the only goal of the game on Saturday, lifting Maine to a 1-0 victory over #3/3 Northeastern at home.

Katie Kaufman, MC (Sr., F; Lake Elmo, Minn.) Scored one goal against UConn, giving Merrimack the lead, on Saturday in an eventual 2-2 draw.

Ashlyn Kroes, MC (Fr., D; Milton, Ont.) Earned her first collegiate point with an assist against UConn, helping the Warriors earn a 2-2 tie against the Huskies.

Teghan Inglis, MC (Sr., D; Okotoks, Alta.) Blocked four shots over the weekend in Hockey East play and earned a primary assist on Saturday.

Emma Gorski, MC (Sr., G; Wallaceburg, Ont.) Kicked out 29 saves in a 2-2 draw with UConn on Saturday.

Sara Hjalmarsson, PC (Gr., F; Bankeryd, Sweden) Set up a strike in Friday’s victory over UNH before scoring the game-winning goal on Saturday with under two seconds left to play in regulation.
