ORONO, Maine - The #5/6 University of Maine men's ice hockey team and #17 University of Connecticut battled to a 2-2 tie on Saturday night at Alfond Arena. The Black Bears earned the extra Hockey East point with a win in the shootout.
UConn took a 1-0 lead at the 17:17 mark of the first period but Oskar Komarov scored with one second remaining to send the game into the break tied. After a scoreless second period, Taylor Makar made it 2-1 Maine six minutes into the third period. With the goaltender pulled, the Huskies capitalized on a five-minute major, putting home the game-tying goal with a 6-on-4 advantage.
In the shootout, Nicholas Niemo converted the first attempt for Maine and Albin Boija stopped all three UConn attempts.
