Women's Weekly Release: Women's Standings Take Shape Entering Final Month of Play
Regular Season Title Race Comes Down To The Wire

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

With less than one month remaining in the Hockey East regular season, the women’s Army ROTC Standings have begun to take shape with Boston University, UConn, Northeastern, Boston College, and Providence all 10 points or more clear of sixth-place Maine. The top five teams receive byes into the quarterfinals.

Providence sits just two points outside of the top four slots after a sweep of Maine and New Hampshire, lifted by five goals from sophomore Audrey Knapp.

New Hampshire goaltender Sedona Blair stopped 85 of 89 shots she faced in a split weekend for the Wildcats, including a career-high 43 saves in a 1-0 win against Holy Cross on Friday. She followed up with 42 saves in a 4-3 overtime set back the next night.

Merrimack upset No. 12 Boston College on Saturday thanks in part to 30 saves from Calli Hogarth, who posted back-to-back 30+ save performances against ranked opponents.

Holy Cross senior defenseman Carmen Elliott scored her first career game-winning goal in overtime on senior night in a 1-0 win against Maine. She also blocked six shots on the weekend and sang the national anthem prior to senior night’s puck drop.

Audrey Knapp - Providence

Audrey Knapp (So., F; Stevens Point, Wis.) poured in five goals in a weekend sweep of Maine and New Hampshire. She completed her first career hat trick with the over time goal in a 3-2 win over Maine before scoring twice more in a 4-3 win over New Hampshire, including the goal that forced overtime with just 1:31 remaining in the game. She now has eight goals and four assists during Providence’s current 9-1-0 stretch and only two games without a point.

Chloe Goofers (Fr., F; Leduc, Alta.) scored her second game-winning goal of the season in Merrimack’s 5-3 win over No. 12 Boston College on Saturday.

Carmen Elliott - Holy Cross
Ashley Kokavec - Vermont

Carmen Elliott (Sr., D; Stephenville, N.L.) netted the game-winning goal, the first of her career, in overtime on a power-play one-timer for the 1-0 win over Maine on Senior Day. She also made a total of six blocks on the weekend for the Crusader defense. Before the game, she sang the Canadian national anthem.

Ashley Kokavec (So., D; Parkland, Fla.) scored a shorthanded, game-winning goal in Vermont’s 1-0 shutout win at Northeastern. She had seven total shots on net and sits second in Hockey East in total shots by a defender. She also recorded two blocked shots throughout the weekend.

Sedona Blair - New Hampshire

Sedona Blair (So., G; Eden Prairie, Minn.) stopped 85 of 89 shots for a .955 save percentage in a 1-1-0 outing last week. She recorded a career-high 43 saves to backstop UNH to a 1-0 victory at Holy Cross on Friday, including 19 shots in the third period and that included five saves in the final 33 seconds with the Crusaders skating 6-on-4. Blair kept Holy Cross scoreless on five power plays by stopping all 12 shots faced while the Wildcats were shorthanded. Blair followed that with 42 saves in a 4-3 overtime loss at Providence. She stopped four shots in overtime before surrendering the game-ending goal. Blair once again backstopped a perfect UNH penalty kill with six saves on three Friars’ power plays. Spanning the two games, Blair recorded 10+ saves in four consecutive periods. Blair has six shutouts this season, including four in Hockey East play.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Julia Pellerin, BC (So., F; Windham, N.H.) Recorded four points in two games for the Eagles, including two goals against Merrimack, and dished out a helper in both games. Pellerin is now on a six-game point streak (5g, 3a).

Lilli Welcke, BU (Jr., F; Heidelberg, Germany) Had one goal and one assist in a weekend sweep of Boston College and Vermont.

Kaileigh Quigg, BU (Fr., F; Keswick, Ont.) Earned one goal and one assist to help BU to a sweep of BC and Vermont. She was plus-one in both games and won nine faceoffs.

Maggie Hanzel, BU (Sr., D; Rochester, Minn.) Picked up two helpers in a sweep of BC and Vermont to extend her point streak to three games and tie her career high of nine points on the year.

Mari Pietersen, BU (So., G; Goodwood, Ont.) Earned her third consecutive win with a 24-save performance in a 3-2 win over rival Boston College.

Jada Habisch, UConn (Sr., F; Buffalo, Minn.) Recorded a four-point weekend, scoring three goals and adding one assist in a split weekend for UConn. In Friday’s win over Merrimack, Habisch scored her seven goal of the season, helping UConn to a season sweep of the Warriors. On Saturday, Habisch opened the scoring for the Huskies going blue line to blue line, scoring in consecutive games for the 12th time in her career. Habisch once again came up big for the Huskies, scoring an equalizer late in the third period, sending the game to overtime. This is the 10th multi-goal game for Habisch in her career. For the weekend, she recorded ten shots.

Claire Murdoch, UConn (Fr., F; Toronto, Ont.) Recorded a goal and an assist in two games this weekend.

Ava Rinker, UConn (Sr., D; Elverson, Pa.) Led the Huskies blue line with a goal and an assist in two games this weekend. Rinker notched her team high 15th assist in Friday’s win over Merrimack. The senior defender scored her first goal of the season in Saturday’s game against No. 14 Northeastern.

Megan Warrener, UConn (Sr., G; Stoney Creek, Ont.) Made 19 saves in a 3-1 win over Merrimack on Friday.

Alexia Moreau, HC (Jr., F; Louiseville, Que.) Assisted teammate Carmen Elliott on her game-winner in overtime by winning the faceoff to begin a quick play for a 1-0 result over Maine. She also took nine shots and made one block on the weekend.

Kaitlin Sullivan, HC (Fr., D; Needham, Mass.) Made five blocks on the weekend, four of which were made in a 1-0 overtime win against Maine.

Abby Hornung, HC (Jr., G; Ashland, Mass.) Earned a split weekend while allowing only one goal and making 59 saves. She made 32 saves against New Hampshire in a 1-0 loss before taking home a 1-0 overtime victory with 27 stops and earning her first career shutout. She had a 0.50 goals-against average with a .983 save percentage on the weekend series.

Michaela Littlewood, MC (So., F; Andover, Mass.) Had a goal and an assist in Merrimack’s 5-3 upset win over Boston College on Saturday.

Payten Evans, MC (Jr., D; Calgary, Alta.) Earned the secondary assist on the game winning goal over Boston College.

Calli Hogarth, MC (Jr., G; Barrie, Ont.) Went 1-1-0 last weekend with two 30-save performances against ranked opponents, stopping 33 in a 3-1 setback to No. 15 UConn and then making 30 saves in a 5-3 win over No. 12 Boston College for a .926 save percentage.

Marina Alvarez, UNH (Sr., D; Center Moriches, N.Y.) Scored an unassisted shorthanded game-winning goal in UNH’s 1-0 victory at Holy Cross on Friday. Her other stats last week included six blocks and an even rating.

Tuva Kandell, NU (Fr., D; Leksand, Sweden) Posted the overtime game-winning goal on the power-play to deliver Northeastern a 4-3 victory over No. 15 UConn. Kandell’s game-winner was the first of her career.

Lily Yovetich, NU (Gr., Los Angeles, Calif.) Recorded two assists to help Northeastern to a 4-3 overtime victory over No. 15 UConn. Yovetich’s two assists tied her career-high. She also posted three blocks over two games for the Huskies.

Cristina Cavaliere, PC (Jr., D; Mississauga, Ont.) Dished out three helpers and blocked two shots to help Providence sweep Maine and New Hampshire.

Lara Beecher, UVM (Jr., F; Buffalo, N.Y.) Had two points over the weekend, earning an assist on Vermont’s game-winning, shorthanded goal at Northeastern and scored her fifth goal of the season the next day at BU. Her goal against BU was shorthanded, giving Vermont its second shorthanded goal in just as many days.

Sydney Correa, UVM (Sr., G; Georgetown, Mass.) Anchored Vermont to a 1-0 win over Northeastern, stopping all 24 shots she saw in relief across 54:58 of work. She helped Vermont kill off all six of Northeastern’s power plays.
