Women's Weekly Release: Northeastern Advances to 2026 Women's Frozen Four
UConn Claims First National Tournament Victory, Falls in Quarterfinals

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

Northeastern has reached the 2026 Women’s Frozen Four, hosted by Penn State at Pegula Ice Arena, after a convincing 4-2 road victory at Minnesota. The Huskies scored four unanswered goals, including three in the first period, and got 45 saves from Lisa Jonsson, who did not allow an even-strength goal, to reach the final weekend of play for the first time since 2023. Northeastern last appeared in the national title game in 2021.

The Huskies will take on top overall seed Ohio State in the Frozen Four on Friday, March 20 at 4:00 p.m. on ESPNU. The other national semifinalists include Penn State and defending national champion Wisconsin.

UConn won its first-ever national tournament game with a 4-1 win over Princeton in the first round, hosted by Penn State. Kyla Josifovic scored two goals and Tia Chan had 41 saves in the victory. The Huskies saw their season come to an end on Saturday, falling, 3-0, to the host Nittany Lions in the quarterfinals.

Major national awards, including the Patty Kazmaier Award, the Julie Chu Award as National Rookie of the Year, the national goaltender of the year, the national coach of the year, and the All-American teams will be announced this weekend during the Women’s Frozen Four.

Eloise Caron (So., F; Saint-Hyacinthe, Que.) scored an unassisted goal and had a primary assist in a 4-2 win at Minnesota to send Northeastern into the Frozen Four.

Kyla Josifovic (Sr., F; Burlington, Ont.) scored two more goals in a 4-1 win over Princeton, helping UConn to its first-ever national tournament win. She ended her UConn career with five goals and three game-winners in her final six games.

Stryker Zablocki (Fr., F; Prince Albert, Sask.) scored the goal that gave Northeastern a 2-0 lead over #4 Minnesota in the national quarterfinals. The Huskies took a 4-2 win to return to the Frozen Four.

Alessia Baechler (Fr., D; Illnau, Switzerland) dished out two assists, including the primary helper on the game-winning goal, of Northeastern’s 4-2 win over #4 Minnesota on the road to lift the Huskies into the Frozen Four.

Lisa Jonsson - Northeastern

Lisa Jonsson (So., G; Stockholm, Sweden) stopped 45 of 47 shots on net she faced against #4 Minnesota in a 4-2 win to backbone her team into the Frozen Four. She did not allow a goal until 11:10 of the third period when Minnesota converted on the power-play and then scored another power-play goal with an extra attacker as well. In her last two games, she has saved 99 of 103 shots she has seen.
