Boston University and Northeastern Duel for Boston Bragging Rights on Big Stage

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

The 2025 Dunkin’ Women’s Beanpot returns to TD Garden tonight and both the third-place game and championship game will air on NESN. Boston College and Harvard square off at 4:30pm while Northeastern looks to defend its 2024 crown against Boston University at 7:30pm. Tickets are still available at TicketMaster.com.

Northeastern and Boston University advanced to the title game of the 2025 Women’s Beanpot, a rematch of the 2024 affair at TD Garden. The Huskies were paced by two points each from Skylar Irving and Lily Shannon while the Terriers used Lindsay Bochna’s overtime strike after Sydney Healey tied the game with 55 seconds remaining in Tuesday’s semifinals.

Providence swept Northeastern, 5-1 and 3-2, in a two-game set last weekend. Reichen Kirchmair had two goals and an assist while Hope Walinski stopped 48 of 51 shots. She has now won each of her last six starts while allowing just eight goals and making 131 saves.

Sedona Blair backboned UNH to its first shutout win over Boston University since the 2008 Hockey East semifinals with a 26-save perfect game on Saturday. She has five shutouts this season and 10 in her career.

Holy Cross and Merrimack skated to a pair of ties over the weekend with the Crusaders earning two extra points after winning both shootouts.

Reichen Kirchmair - Providence

Reichen Kirchmair (Jr., F; Oakville, Ont.) had two goals and one assist for three points in a sweep of No. 15 Northeastern. She netted the game-winning goal in Saturday’s 3-2 win over the Huskies and extend the Friars’ six-game winning streak in January. She leads PC with 12 goals, 10 assists, and 22 points.

Hannah Deck - Holy Cross

Hannah Deck (Fr., D; Chestermere, Alta.) scored the game-tying goal on the power play in game two of a pair of ties and shootout wins over Merrimack. She also netted the shootout-winning goal in the same game for the extra point.

Julia Shaunessy - Boston University

Julia Shaunessy (Gr., D; Melrose, Mass.) assisted on both goals in BU’s 2-1 overtime win over Harvard in Tuesday’s Beanpot semifinal. She put five shots on net while blocking one shot and earning a plus-two rating. She currently leads BU in points (14) and assists (13)

Sedona Blair - New Hampshire

Sedona Blair (So., G; Eden Prairie, Minn.) stopped all 26 shots to backstop UNH to a 2-0 victory against 14th-ranked Boston University. Blair made 10 saves in both the first and third periods. With UNH leading 1-0 in the opening minute of the third period, Blair made a highlight-reel paddle save on a 2-on-1 shorthanded rush to preserve the one-goal lead and the Wildcats scored 11 seconds later to extend the margin to two goals. Blair has five shutouts this season and 10 in her career. This was UNH’s first shutout win over BU since the 2008 Hockey East semifinals.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Olivia Maffeo, BC (Fr., D; Canton, Mass.) Recorded the game-winning goal in Friday’s 3-0 win over Vermont and added an assist for two points.

Grace Campbell, BC (Jr., G; Kensington, Md.) In Friday’s game against Vermont, recorded her third straight Hockey East shutout. Campbell saved all 22 of the shots she faced.

Lindsay Bochna, BU (Gr., F; Toronto, Ont.) Netted the overtime winning goal in her first Beanpot semifinal game, delivering a 2-1 win over Harvard and sending the Terriers in to the title game at TD Garden. She was plus-one in the game with five shots on net and one block.

Callie Shanahan, BU (Sr., G; Commerce, Mich.) Made nine saves in 2-1 overtime win against Northeastern on Tuesday and 22 stops in a 2-0 setback at New Hampshire.

Claire Murdoch, UConn (Fr., F; Toronto, Ont.) Scored her fourth goal in three games to open the 2025 calendar year. She opened the scoring in Friday’s 2-2 tie against Maine, giving her a team high 19 points this season.

Maya Serdachny, UConn (So., D; Edmonton, Alta.) Assisted on three of UConn’s five goals in a 1-0-1 weekend against Maine. She set up UConn’s first goal in Friday’s 2-2 tie against Maine. The sophomore then recorded assists on UConn’s first two goals in Saturday’s 3-0 win, helping the Huskies win the season series over Maine.

Tia Chan, UConn (Sr., G; Hamilton, Ont.) Recorded 51 saves and allowed only two goals in a 1-0-1 weekend against Maine. She made 18 saves in a 2-2 tie with Maine on Friday and then denied the first six Black Bear shootout attempts. In Saturday’s 3-0 win, Chan stopped all 33 shots she faced, earning her third shutout this season.

Emily Crovo, HC (So., F; Melrose, Mass.) Helped Holy Cross to four points in league play via two shootout wins over Merrimack with two assists. She set up the first power-play goal in game two’s 2-2 tie and scored the lone shootout tally in game one to secure the extra point.

Emma Min, HC (Sr., D; London, Ont.) Made five blocks in a two-game stalemate with Merrimack.

Abby Hornung, HC (Jr., G; Ashland, Mass.) Made 54 saves on 57 shots in a two-game set with Merrimack, drawing each game. She had a 1.39 GAA and .947 save percentage. She stopped nine of 10 shootout attempts from the Warriors to deliver Holy Cross two extra points in league play.

Michaela Littlewood, MC (So., F; Andover, Mass.) Had an assist in Merrimack’s lone goal in a 1-1 tie with Holy Cross on Friday and scored the opening goal in a 2-2 draw on Saturday.

Maggie Kime, MC (Fr., D; Plymouth, Mich.) Earned an assist on the game-tying goal of a 2-2 draw with Holy Cross on Saturday.

Calli Hogarth, MC (Jr., G; Barrie, Ont.) Went unbeaten this weekend against Holy Cross, posting a .962 save percentage and a 1.38 GAA by stopping 51 of 54 shots she faced.

Shea Verrier, UNH (Sr., F; Reading, Mass.) Scored the game-winning goal and won five of eight faceoffs in UNH’s 2-0 victory over 14th-ranked Boston University on Saturday.

Tory Mariano, NU (Sr., D; Buffalo, N.Y.) Posted three points over three games last week for the Huskies. Mariano posted one goal and one assist to tie her career-high in a 4-2 victory over No. 12 BC in the Beanpot semifinals. Mariano had the game-winning goal against the Eagles. She also posted nine blocks over three games.

Lily Martinson, PC (Sr., D; Allen, Texas) Found the back of the net twice in a weekend sweep of No. 15 Northeastern.

Hope Walinski, PC (Sr., G; Lincoln, R.I.) stopped 48 of 51 shots she faced in a weekend sweep of No. 15 Northeastern. She has now won each of her last six starts while allowing just eight goals and making 131 saves.
