AMHERST, Mass. - Sophomore goaltender Cameron Whitehead recorded 35 saves to lead the Northeastern men's hockey team to a 3-0 shutout over UMass on Saturday night.
- The Huskies would tally one goal a period en route to their victory over the Minutemen. Striking first was assistant captain Vinny Borgesi just over the midway point in the opening period. With his fourth goal of the season, the defensemen buried strong shot from the slot followed by a beautiful setup from sophomore Dylan Hryckowian and junior Cam Lund.
- With shots in the second period tied at 12 apiece, graduate student Jake Boltmann tallied his first goal in the NU sweater to put the Huskies up 2-0 with 1:08 to play in the middle frame. Junior captain Jack Williams began the play by intercepting the puck along the boards before finding Hryckowian near the redline. Hryckowian's sent a pass to the point for Boltmann who put home his own rebound.
- In the final period, Williams once again forced a turnover within the neutral zone that lead to a rush for Hryckowian who potted an empty-net goal for the 3-0 victory and his third point of the evening.
- Williams led both rosters with four blocks and Lund recorded a game-high seven shots.
- Whitehead collected his fifth career shutout with his tenth 30+ save of the season.
Up next, the Huskies will hit the road for a series in Burlington with Vermont on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 17-18.
