Ryan Tattle Named Inaugural Hockey East Community Champion
UConn Forward Was Also A Finalist For The Hockey Humanitarian Award

AMESBURY, Mass. - The Hockey East Association announced today that UConn Ryan Tattle (Port Moody, B.C.) has been honored as the inaugural Hockey East Community Champion. The award was jointly created by Hockey East and Service Credit Union in 2026 to recognize student-athletes who demonstrate exceptional commitment to their campus and local communities.

“Ryan Tattle is an incredibly deserving Community Champion and we are proud to honor his work and legacy with this award,” said Hockey East Commissioner Steve Metcalf. “We are thankful to our partners at Service Credit Union for their commitment to highlighting the great work our student-athletes do within their communities and away from the ice rink.”

Along with the honor, Tattle will receive $3,000 for his charitable work.

Tattle, one of five finalists for the Hockey Humanitarian Award in 2025-26, founded Score For Cancer, a foundation that supports the Canadian Cancer Society in 2021 after his mother, Joanne, and teammate, Greg Lapointe, were both diagnosed with cancer. To date, Score for Cancer has raised over $188,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society through a variety of charitable endeavors that are highlighted by the annual Score For Cancer Game hosted by the Coquitlam Express.

Tattle was a two-time captain of the Express, which plays its games just 15 minutes from his hometown of Port Moody, British Columbia. During the first Score For Cancer Game, he recorded four goals and one assist in a come-from-behind victory while raising over $20,000 for the foundation.

Tattle has remained involved with the charity during his time at UConn, while also lifting up the Storrs community through his commitment to Team Impact and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Tattle, who also served as a two-time captain of the UConn Huskies, developed his sense of leadership and charity after his father co-founded a different charity, Lina’s Dream, in 2011. Tattle has helped that charity raise more than $775,000 for breast cancer research
