Northeastern Earns Extra Point in Shootout After 2-2 Tie With Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Northeastern men's hockey team took home a 2-2 tie and shootout win over the No. 11 Providence Friars on Friday night at Schneider Arena.

- The Huskies came out strong to start their first game of the weekend series, taking a 1-0 lead over the Friars just 1:16 into the opening frame. With a snipe from the top of the slot, freshman Joe Connor tallied his first career goal to give NU the early advantage. Leading to Connor's breakaway was the connection of senior Cristophe Tellier and junior Joaquim Lemay for the assists.

- After 20 minutes of action, the Huskies lead the Friars in shots, 14-8, while continuing to control the momentum of the game.

- The beginning the second period was a battle through its entirety. Providence went on to tie the game, 1-1, just over seven minutes into the second period on the man advantage.

- Northeastern would find the lead once again while on the power play. At the 11:38 mark, junior Jack Williams capitalized on great positioning in front of the Friars net for his third goal of the season. Linemates Cam Lund and Dylan Hryckowian were credited with the helpers.

- Providence would add their second goal of the game to force the 2-2 tie as the third period would go scoreless for both teams.

- The Huskies would take the extra point with the shootout winner from Connor.

- Recording his fourth 30+ save game of the season, sophomore goaltender Cameron Whitehead finished the evening with 36 total saves in 65 minutes of action.

- As a unit, Northeastern outshot Providence, 42-38, and lead 34-31 in faceoff wins. Williams took the advantage over all skaters with 16 wins in the dot.

Northeastern is back on home ice tomorrow night as they host Providence for their annual military appreciation game. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
