MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Holy Cross women's hockey team hit the road for game two of the St. Anselm series. The Crusaders came out with the 3-2 win for their first series sweep of the season over the Hawks.
BETWEEN THE PIPES:
Holy Cross: Abby Hornung (W, 1-0), 27 saves
St. Anselm: Carina Mancini (L, 0-1), 29 saves
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Neither team scored in the opening frame.
- In the second period, the Crusaders got on the board early with a solo goal by junior forward Lane Lewis at 1:33. Not long after, junior assistant captain Alexia Moreau extended the lead with a goal at 7:49. She was assisted by freshman defender Kaitlin Sullivan. The Hawks cut the lead in half scoring at 10:56 netted by Tyra Turner.
- In the third period, St. Anselm tied the game 2-2 with a goal by Brooklyn Schneiderhan at 8:05. The Crusaders responded with redshirt-freshman defender Kenzee Hope firing in a shot which sophomore forward Reghan Chadwick deflected into the back of the net for the game-winning goal. Senior defender Emilie Fortunato set the play in motion setting Hope up for the shot giving both credit for assists.
- Holy Cross led St. Anselm 32-29 in shots on goal and 35-21 in face-offs to conclude the game.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:
- Sullivan and Hope both earned their first career points on assists.
- Hornung earned her first career win in net.
