UConn, Northeastern Earn NCAA Tournament Bids

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

UConn won its second Hockey East Women’s Tournament championship in an instant classic, downing Northeastern, 2-1, in double overtime. The game saw UConn goalie Tia Chan and NU’s Lisa Jonsson, each surpass the previous record for saves in a championship game, stopping 57 and 54, respectively, in what was the longest title game in Hockey East women’s history. Chan was named Tournament MVP and a Top-10 finalist for the Patty Kaz Award.

Kyla Josifovic scored at 95:23 to deliver UConn its second Bertagna Trophy in program history. Joining her on the All-Tournament Team were teammates Chan, Julia Stephen, and Claire Murdoch, and Northeastern’s Morgan Jackson and Jules Constantinople.

UConn and Northeastern each earned bids into the 2026 Women’s NC Tournament, the first time Hockey East has earned two multiple bids in a full-length regular season since 2018-19. UConn returns for the second time in program history (2024) looking for its first NC Tournament win.

Northeastern earned a national tournament bid for the seventh time and first since 2023. The Huskies have reached the Frozen Four in each of their last three appearances, including a national runner-up finish in 2021.

Stryker Zablocki won Hockey East Player of the Year and Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Year. She is the sixth Husky to win the Cammi Granato Award and led all Hockey East skaters in goals (17) and points (34), and was third in assists (17). She is the first rookie to lead Hockey East in conference scoring since 2017-18.

Boston College’s Ava Thomas was named Co-Rookie of the Year while Holy Cross head coach Katie Lachapelle was selected as the Coach of the Year.

Tia Chan and Kyla Josifovic - UConn

Tia Chan (Gr., G; Hamilton, Ont.) was named Hockey East Tournament MVP after setting a new record for most saves in a championship game, stopping 57 shots in a 2-1 double overtime victory.

Kyla Josifovic (Sr., F; Burlington, Ont.) scored the double overtime goal in a 2-1 win to capture the Bertagna Trophy for UConn on Saturday. She had four points in three tournament games, including a goal in each contest and two game-winning goals.

True Thompson (Fr., D; Sherwood Park, Alta.) had more blocks than any other Hockey East rookie last week, preventing three shots from getting on net, and helped UConn claim the Hockey East Tournament crown.

Julia Stephen - UConn

Julia Stephen (Jr., D; Burlington, Ont.) was a plus-six in three Hockey East Tournament games and was named to the All-Tournament Team. She had one assist and six blocks.


STOP IT GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK

Lisa Jonsson - Northeastern

Lisa Jonsson (So., G; Stockholm, Sweden) made 54 saves in the Hockey East championship game, surpassing the previous record entering the game. She played 236:37 of tournament hockey, posting a 1.01 GAA and .966 SV% and made 113 saves.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Morgan Jackson, NU (So., F; Courtenay, B.C.) Named to the Hockey East All-Tournament Team after scoring the game-winning goal in the semifinals over Vermont. She added an assist on that game’s opening goal.

Jules Constantinople, NU (Sr., D; East Haven, Conn.) Was named to the Hockey East All-Tournament Team with two points in the tournament, a goal and an assist.
