DURHAM, N.H. - Grad student Andi Calderone (Kirkland, Quebec) scored the game-tying goal with 2:13 remaining in regulation to lift the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team to Saturday night's 1-1 tie against Assumption University at the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex.
Following a scoreless five-minute overtime, the best-of-3 shootout extended to seven rounds with Assumption edging the Wildcats, 2-1.
Sophomore goalie Noemi Martinez (Glen Ridge, N.J.) made 22 saves, including two in OT, in her collegiate debut.
Assumption netminder Jadyn Weiser was credited with 54 saves, including 21 in the first period and four in the extra session. Lauren Broecker scored the Greyhounds' goal.
UNH remains unbeaten at 1-0-1 and Assumption is now 0-3-1.

First Period
- UNH generated a 21-7 shot advantage in the scoreless first period.
- One of the most dangerous scoring chances was not recorded as a shot on goal, however, as Heather Ajakie's shot from the top of the right circle rang off the near post and landed in the crease just outside the goal line. UNH's Maddie Crowley-Cahill (Haverhill, Mass.) swept the loose puck forward under Martinez to prevent the goal.
Second Period
- UNH recorded a 14-8 edge in shots in the second stanza but Assumption scored to take a 1-0 lead through 40 minutes.
- The Greyhounds scored their first goal of the season at 8:55 - 15 seconds after their power play elapsed - to take a 1-0 lead. Teagan Vaughan's initial shot from the slot was blocked but Broecker collected the rebound on the right side and lifted a shot under the crossbar.
- UNH went on its first power play of the game at 12:54. A little more than a minute later, the backdoor play set up Alyson Hush (Toronto, Ontario) at the right post but Weiser slid across the crease to make the save.
- With 1:40 on the clock, Brooke Hammer (Commerce Township, Mich.) led a 3-on-1 rush down the right side and her shot was stopped by Weiser.
Third Period
- New Hampshire recorded a 16-6 shot advantage in the third period.
- The 'Cats generated a 3-on-2 rush and Hammer's low, hard shot at the right post was once again turned aside by Weiser to keep the Greyhounds in front, 1-0, at 12:12.
- UNH went back on a power play at 12:58, but is was truncated when the Wildcats were whistled for a penalty at 13:34.
- The 'Cats returned to full strength at 15:34 and peppered Weiser with four more shots in the next minute.
- UNH called a timeout with 2:19 on the clock and pulled Martinez for the extra skater and scored six seconds later to level the score, 1-1.
- The initial shot from the left point by Marina Alvarez (Center Moriches, N.Y.) was stopped by Weiser, but Calderone collected the rebound on the right side and lifted a backhander into the open right side of the cage at 17:47. Sara Boucher (Burlington, Ontario) was credited with the secondary assist.
- Assumption called time out with 59.3 seconds remaining in regulation but the Greyhounds were whistled for a hooking penalty with 11 seconds to play.
Overtime
- UNH recorded one shot on goal in the 1:49 of power play that carried into the extra session.
- Assumption's Alexa Hanrahan collected an outlet pass behind the defense in the left circle but Martinez held her ground and blocked aside a backhander to extend the game at 2:48.
- With 65 seconds on the clock, Calderone lifted a backhander deep on the left side that caromed off the near post.
- Kira Juodikis (LaSallle, Ontario) almost ended the game as she advanced past a defender deep on the right side and cut to the top of the crease, where her shot was stopped by Weiser.
- An Assumption turnover near the blue line led to a 3-on-0 scoring chance, but Shea Verrier (Reading, Mass.) was stoned by Weiser with 20 seconds to play.
Shootout
- Assumption shot first and Jenna Chaplain scored but Boucher matched that in the bottom of Round 1 to tie the score, 1-1.
- Neither team scored in the next two rounds to extend the shootout to push it to single rounds.
- Martinez and Weiser were perfect the next three round to send it to Round 7.
- Kayla McGaffigan converted, and then Weiser forced a shot high to secure the shootout victory for the visitors.
Game Notebook
- New Hampshire finished with a 55-23 shot advantage.
- Both teams were 0-for-4 on the power play.
- UNH recorded 11 blocked shots and Assumption blocked 17 shots.
- The Wildcats had a 38-28 edge in the faceoff circle.
