WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's hockey team hosted St. Anselm for its home opener on Friday night. The Crusaders came out with a definitive 5-1 win over the Hawks.
BETWEEN THE PIPES:
Holy Cross: Brooke Loranger (W, 2-1), 23 saves
St. Anselm: Annabella Lalande (L, 0-1), 45 saves | Ava Hills, 11 saves
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the first period, freshman forward Amanda Aslan netted her first career goal at 12:55 to give the Crusaders the 1-0 lead.
- In the second period, Holy Cross extended its lead with a late goal by sophomore assistant captain Emily Crovo at 17:53. The Hawks responded with a Brenna Young goal to cut the Crusaders lead in half at 18:41.
- In the third period, the Crusaders tallied three more goals within five minutes of opening face-off (by Crovo and sophomore forwards Abby Garvin and Lulu Rourke) to secure a dominant 5-1 victory in their home opener.
- Holy Cross led St. Anselm 61-24 in shots and 38-20 in face-offs to conclude the game.
