Sophomore goaltender Sedona Blair made 23 saves and junior forward Alyson Hush scored two goals for the Wildcats

DURHAM, N.H. - Sophomore goaltender Sedona Blair (Eden Prairie, Minn.) stopped all 23 shots she faced to backstop the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team to a 6-0 win in Friday's season opener against Assumption University at the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex.

Junior Alyson Hush (Toronto, Ontario), grad student Andi Calderone (Kirkland, Quebec) junior Hannah Rodgers (Apex, N.C.) senior Kira Juodikis (LaSalle, Ontario) and grad student Chavonne Truter (Uxbridge, Ontario) scored UNH's goals.

Hush (two goals) and Truter (goal, assist) both finished with multiple points. Seniors Brooke Hammer (Commerce Township, Mich.) and Shea Verrier (Reading, Mass.), as well as sophomore Lucie Legro (Brentwood, N.H.), tallied two assists apiece.

Carissa Mudrak was credited with 37 saves.

FIRST PERIOD

- Hush put UNH on the board, scoring the first goal of the season at 8:43. Her shot went between the goalie's legs off a pass from Leonard giving the 'Cats a 1-0 lead.

- UNH outshot Assumption 14-11 as the period was neck-and-neck.


SECOND PERIOD

Hush scored her second goal of the night on the power play at 9:37 and was assisted by Truter and Verrier. A slap shot by Marina Alvarez (Center Moriches, N..Y.) hit the crossbar and ultimately set up the play. That shot and rebound allowed for the scrappy goal expanding UNH's lead to 2-0.


THIRD PERIOD

- Twenty-seven seconds into the period, Calderone scored her first goal as a Wildcat off a wrist shot that was assisted by Hammer and forecasted how the rest of the period would unfold.

- Rodgers extended UNH's lead by scoring at 7:08 for her first career goal. The redirection at the left post was set up by Legro and Courtney Lilley (Wakefield, Mass.).

- UNH's fifth goal was scored by Juodikis, who found the back of the net off a wrist shot that hit the top right corner at 13:35. This was assisted by Verrier and Hammer as Verrier had beautiful pass to set up the play.

- Truter continued the Wildcats remarkable third period with a shot that hit the bottom right corner of the net at 17:31. Charlie Rauch (Ramsey, N.J.) and Legro assisted, bringing UNH's lead to 6-0.


GAME NOTEBOOK

- UNH outshot Assumption, 43- 23.

- UNH went 1-for-1 on the power play while Assumption was 0-for-2.

- Faceoffs were even at 30.

- UNH blocked three shot attempts, and the Assumption had seven blocks.
