BOSTON, Mass.- Sophomore forwards Cam Lund and Jack Williams each tallied a three-point night as the Northeastern men's hockey team skated to a 5-3 victory over the Merrimack College Warriors on Friday night.
- Lund started the scoring for both sides with his ninth goal of the season just 3:12 into the opening frame. Lund's bury came right on the doorstep off a feed to the net from senior Gunnarwolfe Fontaine, with the secondary assist credited to Williams.
- The Warriors were able to tie the game at 1-1 before the end of the first period.
- Northeastern then retook the lead 1:10 into the second period. Forcing a turnover in the neutral zone, the Hryckowian brothers, Justin and Dylan, went the other way for a two-on-one where Justin eventually netted the puck to put the Huskies ahead.
- Northeastern's scoring continued in the middle frame with two unanswered goals. Williams' scored his first of the night as he collected his own rebound from the left faceoff dot. Sophomores Vinny Borgesi and Lund recorded the helpers.
- Fontaine picked up his second point of the night off a one-timer for his fifth goal of the year. Lund, whose defensive efforts created the scoring opportunity, picked up the assist.
- The final frame opened with Northeastern up 4-1, until Williams broke through once again to make it a four-goal game. Williams had assists from senior Alex Campbell and freshman Dylan Hryckowian, who tallied his second helper of the night.
- Before the game closed out, the Warriors would tack on two unanswered goals to make it a 5-3 final.
- Freshman netminder Cameron Whitehead posted 20 saves in his eighth win of the season.
- Williams tallied a team-high five shots, while Justin Hryckowian led both squads with 12 faceoff wins.
