Hamden, Conn. - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team dropped their first contest of the year in to #8 Quinnipiac by a score of 3 to 0.
Goal 1: Forty-nine seconds into the game, Sadie Peart scored to give Quinnipiac the early lead. Assists were notched by Nina Steigaf and Tiana McIntyre.
Goal 2: Julia Nearis gave Quinnipiac a two-goal lead just over two minutes into the second period on an even-strength goal.
Goal 3: Kendall Cooper scored an empty-net goal with 27 seconds left in the game as Maine pulled their goalie to have an extra attacker on the ice.
Maine went two for two on the penalty kill, successfully killing off both of the Bobcats power play opportunities in the second period. Senior netminder Anna LaRose made 28 saves on 30 shots on the night.
The Black Bears face off against the Bobcats again tomorrow at 3pm back at M and T Bank Arena in Hamden, Connecticut.
