HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

Maine captured the Ledyard Bank Classic title at Dartmouth last weekend, downing RIT and the hosts to go a perfect 6-0-0 in December. The Black Bears currently sit first in the Pairwise rankings, just ahead Boston University at two and Boston College at three.

Providence took home the Mayor’s Cup, downing city rival Brown, 3-0, on Saturday by way of three third-period tallies. Austen May dished out two assists and Philip Svedeback stopped all 15 shots he faced to earn the victory.

Northeastern took second place in a holiday tournament in Milwaukee, toppling Minnesota Duluth, 4-3 in overtime, to advance to the title game. Sophomore Jack Williams recorded a hat trick, including the game-winning strike. He has already matched his point toal from last season (17) in 21 fewer contests.

Vermont swept St. Thomas, 5-1 and 4-1, to extend its winning streak to five games for the first time since 2017 and have now gone 7-3-0 in its last 10 after starting 2-4-1.

Boston University picked up a 6-1 win over Yale with two goals each from Dylan Peterson and Shane LaChance.

New Hampshire saw 12 players record at least one point in a 6-2 win over Sacred Heart, including five goal scorers.

Jack Williams - Northeastern

Jack Williams (So., F; Biddeford, Maine) helped power Northeastern to a 4-3 overtime win over Minnesota Duluth, netting two goals in the second period including a power-play strike, that erased a two-goal deficit for the Huskies. He then finished his first career hat trick hat trick with an overtime strike to deliver the victory while winning 14 of 19 faceoffs.

Ty Daneault - Merrimack

Ty Daneault (Fr., F; Red Deer, Alta.) scored two goals in the first 9:32 of a 3-2 win over Stonehill on Sunday to close out 2023. He added a power-play goal in Friday’s 5-1 win at Brown.

Brandon Chabrier - Maine

Brandon Chabrier (So., D; Bayville, N.Y.) had three points on one goal and two assists to go with three blocked shots and four shots on goal. He added a plus-two rating and tied for league lead in blue line scoring on the weekend.

Gabe Carriere - Vermont

Gabe Carriere (Sr., G; Ottawa, Ont.) earned two wins to extend his winning streak to five straight games. He made 58 saves on 60 shots, allowing just one goal in each game of a two-game set against St. Thomas. He has now allowed two goals or fewer in nine of his last 10 starts and just one goal in five of those games.

Shane Lachance, BU (Fr., F; Andover, Mass.) Picked up his third two-goal game of the season in a 6-1 win over Yale. He now has four goals in his last three games.

Dylan Peterson, BU (Sr., F; Roseville, Calif.) Scored two goals, including the game-winning strike, in a 6-1 victory over Yale.

Devin Kaplan, BU (So., F; Bridgewater, N.J.) Dished out three assists, including one on the power-play, to help push the Terriers over Yale, 6-1.

Mathieu Caron, BU (Jr., G; Abbotsford, B.C.) Stopped 23 of 24 shots in a 6-1 win over Yale.

Chase Bradley, UConn (Jr., F; St. Louis, Mo.) Assisted on the opening goal of a 4-2 win over Harvard on Sunday and scored an empty net goal to seal the victory.

Jake Percival, UConn (So., F; Avon, Conn.) Scored the game-winning goal in a 4-2 win over Harvard and added an assist on the second UConn goal that have the Huskies a 2-1 lead.

Harrison Scott, Maine (Jr., F; San Jose, Calif.) Had two goals, including a game-winning goal, and 17 face-off wins en route to Ledyard Classic MVP honors. He had six shots on goal and a .333 shooting percentage and added two blocked shots.

Josh Nadeau, Maine (Fr., F; St-François-de-Madawaska, N.B.) recorded three points on the weekend to extend his point streak to 12 games. He also had five shots on goal and two blocked shots.

Victor Ostman, Maine (Gr., G; Danderyd, Sweden) Went 2-0-0 and earned Ledyard Classic Most Outstanding Goaltender Honors as he had 36 saves and a .923 save percentage and 1.50 goals against average in wins over RIT and Dartmouth.

Christian Felton, MC (Sr., D; Medina, Ohio) Had two assists in Merrimack’s 5-1 win over Brown on Friday.

Zachary Borgiel, MC (Sr., G; Fort Gratiot, Mich.) Has been in net for the last two wins for Merrimack, making 34 saves and posting a .918 save percentage and 1.50 goals against average over Brown and Stonehill.

Nick Cafarelli, UNH (Sr., F; Middleton, Mass.) Scored three goals for three points over two games on the week. He netted a power play goal in the 6-3 loss at Army West Point on Friday, while he scored twice in the 6-2 win at Sacred Heart on Saturday for his first career multi goal game.

Ryan Conmy, UNH (Fr., F; Alexandria, Va.) Posted two goals and two assists for four points as the Wildcats went 1-1-0 on the week. He recorded one goal and one assist in the 6-3 loss at Army West Point on Friday, while he also tallied one goal and one assist in the 6-2 win at Sacred Heart on Saturday. Conmy leads the team with eight goals, 11 assists and 19 points and has seven multi-point games this season.

Jakob Hellsten, UNH (Jr., G; Ljusdal, Sweden) Made 24 saves and allowed two goals with a .923 save percentage and a 2.01 goals against average in the 6-2 win at Sacred Heart on Saturday. He improved to 5-2-1 on the season. His 1.86 goals against average leads Hockey East and is third in the nation.

Cameron Whitehead, NU (Fr., G; Orleans, Ont.) Stopped 68 shots across two games, making 33 saves in a 4-3 overtime win against Minnesota Duluth and 36 against No. 6 Wisconsin in a 3-0 setback.

Austen May, PC (So., D; Woodhaven, Mich.) Dished out two assists, three shots on goal and was a plus-two as part of a 3-0 win over Brown to deliver Providence the Mayor’s Cup.

Philip Svedeback, PC (So., G; Stockholm, Sweden) Stopped all 15 shots he faced from Brown to take a 3-0 win and Mayor’s Cup title. It was his second shutout this season and third of his career.

Jeremie Bucheler, UVM (Gr., D; St. Laurent, Que.) Had three points (1g, 2a) to help power the Catamounts to a sweep of St. Thomas. He set up the game-winning goal in Saturday’s 5-1 win.

Ralfs Bergmanis, UVM (So., D; Liepaja, Latvia) Dished out three assists, all primary helpers, on the first three goals of a 4-1 win over St. Thomas on Saturday. His second proved to be the game-winning assist and his third game on the power-play.

Dawson Good, UVM (So., F; Abbotsford, B.C.) Posted three points (1g, 2a) in a weekend sweep of St. Thomas.

Nick Ahern, UVM (Fr., F; Chicago, Ill.) Dished out two helpers, including the primary assist on the game’s opening goal of a 5-1 win over St. Thomas on Friday.
