Men's Weekly Release: Sweeps Abound As Men's Season Kicks Off in Earnest
Northeastern Took Six Points in League Play, UConn and UNH Win Twice

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

Northeastern began its 2022-23 Hockey East schedule with a two-game sweep of Vermont at home. Captain Aidan McDonough racked up a five-point weekend and currently leads the Huskies in goals (3), points (5) and shots (15) through three games, including 1.67 PPG to start the year. Devon Levi made 36 saves on 38 shots for .947 save percentage and a 1.01 GAA, including one shutout.

UConn swept Union in a two-game set at home off the back of four points (2g, 2a) from Chase Bradley. The sophomore scored the overtime dagger on Saturday to cap his weekend. Logan Terness made his second start of the season on Friday and stopped 15 of 16 shots to backbone UConn to a 4-1 win.

New Hampshire earned a road sweep at St. Lawrence and No. 17 Clarkson. Tyler Muszelik was outstanding in his collegiate debut, earning a 4-1 road win at St. Lawrence on Fridy. He only allowed one goal as he made 31 saves. Liam Devlin posted two goals and one assist for three points, including the overtime game-winner in a 4-3 win at Clarkson.

Merrimack earned a weekend split, downing No. 17 Clarkson, 3-2, on Saturday after dropping a decision, 3-1, to St. Lawrence the night before. Tristian Crozier had two points this weekend including the game-winning goal at Clarkson on Saturday.

Carl Berglund was an offensive catalyst for UMass Lowell on Saturday night, lifting the River Hawks to a 4-2 comeback victory off a three-point performance. Berglund netted two third-period goals and added an assist against the RedHawks to finish with a plus-two rating and saving a weekend split.

Chase Bradley (So., F; St. Louis, Mo.) enjoyed a four-point (2g, 2a) weekend as UConn swept Union in a pair of non-conference tilts. He set up the game-winning goal and added an empty-net insurance tally in Friday’s 4-1 victory. On Saturday’s, he again set up a go-ahead goal on the power play before netted the overtime dagger to push UConn to 4-0-0 on the season.

Aidan McDonough (Sr., F; Milton, Mass.) tallied a five-point weekend as Northeastern swept Vermont in league play. In game one, his power-play goal cushioned the Huskies victory for a 4-2 lead. In game two, he recorded two goals and two assists to help shutout the Catamounts. McDonough currently leads the Huskies in goals (3), points (5) and shots (15) through three games, including 1.67 PPG to start the year.

Tyler Muszelik - New Hampshire

Tyler Muszelik (Fr., G; Long Valley, N.J.) was outstanding in his collegiate debut, earning a 4-1 road win at St. Lawrence. He only allowed one goal as he made 31 saves for a .969 save percentage and a 1.00 goal against average.

Damien Carfagna - New Hampshire

Damien Carfagna (Fr., D, Wood-Ridge, N.J.) tied for a team-best plus-three on the week as he was a member of a defense that allowed 2.00 goals per game as UNH won at No. 17 Clarkson and St. Lawrence. He scored his first collegiate goal in the 4-1 win at St. Lawrence.

Devon Levi - Northeastern

Devon Levi (Jr., G; Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Que.) opened up Hockey East competition in 2022-23 with two wins and a shutout en route to sweeping Vermont. Over the course of the two games, Levi made 36 saves on 38 shots for .947 save percentage and a 1.01 GAA.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Quinn Hutson, BU (Fr., F; North Barrington, Ill.) Netted a hat trick in the Terriers’ 7-1 victory over Waterloo in exhibition play.

Jake Percival, UConn (Fr., F; Avon, Conn.) Scored two goals in a weekend sweep, including the game-tying goal on Saturday to force overtime against Union in an eventual 4-3 win.

John Spetz, UConn (Jr., D; Oak Ridge, N.J.) Finished a weekend sweep of Union with two assists.

Logan Terness, UConn (So., G; Burnaby, B.C.) In his second start of the season on Friday, Terness stopped 15 of 16 shots to backbone UConn to a 4-1 win.

Tristian Crozier, MC (Gr., F; Calgary, Alta.) Had two points this weekend with an assist at St. Lawrence on Friday and the game-winning goal at #17/17 Clarkson on Saturday.

Zach Bookman, MC (Fr., D; Syracuse, N.Y.) Played in both games this weekend and got his first collegiate point with an assist on Merrimack’s opening goal at #17/17 Clarkson on Saturday. He also led the Warriors with three blocks.

Zachary Borgiel, MC (Jr., G; Fort Gratiot, Mich.) Made 18 saves on 20 shots in Merrimack’s victory vs #17/17 Clarkson on Saturday night.

Carl Berglund, UML (Sr., F; Hammaro, Sweden) Was an offensive catalyst for UMass Lowell on Saturday night, lifting the River Hawks to a 4-2 comeback victory off a three-point performance. Berglund netted two third-period goals and added an assist against the RedHawks to finish with a plus-two rating and earn PNC Bank First Star of the night.

Marek Korencik, UML (Sr., D; Zilina, Slovakia) Net his first goal of the season against Miami (OH) Saturday night in the River Hawks’ 4-2 win at the Tsongas Center. Korencik scored the second period equalizer for UMass Lowell in the come-from-behind win and added a team-best two blocks to his stat line.

Gustavs Davis Grigals, UML (Gr., G; Riga, Latvia) Backstopped the River Hawks to victory on Saturday night against Miami (OH), registering 22 saves and allowing just two goals to move UMass Lowell to a 2-1-0 mark for the season. In his two appearances, Grigals has amassed a 2-0-0 mark.

Liam Devlin, UNH (So., F; Needham, Mass.) Posted two goals and one assist for three points as UNH defeated No. 17 Clarkson and St. Lawrence on the road. He scored the overtime game winner in a 4-3 win at Clarkson, while he tallied an assist on the game winner and scored the third goal of the game in the 4-1 win at St. Lawrence the next night.

Cy LeClerc, UNH (Fr., F; Brentwood, N.H.) recorded one goal and one assist for two points at No. 17 Clarkson in his collegiate debut as the Wildcats won 4-3 in overtime. He scored the first goal of the season for UNH and posted an assist on the second. His offensive output helped UNH to a two-game road sweep of Clarkson and St. Lawrence.

Jack Williams, NU (Fr., F; Biddeford, Maine) In his second career game for the Huskies, Williams recorded an assist on the game-tying goal and scored the game-winning strike against Vermont in game one of a weekend sweep for Northeastern. Williams now has three points in as many games to start the 2022-23 season.

Jackson Dorrington, NU (Fr., D; North Reading, Mass.) In his third career game, recorded two assists as the Huskies shutout Vermont, 5-0, on Saturday night. He also holds a plus-two rating through three games.

Chase Yoder, PC (Jr., F; Fairview, Texas) Recorded a career-high three assists in Providence's 6-1 win over Sacred Heart on Friday. The junior also finished with a plus-two rating.

Connor Kelley, PC (Jr., D; Maple Grove, Minn.) Posted two assists, blocked three shots and was a plus-three in the Friars' season-opening 6-1 win over Sacred Heart on Friday.
