#4 Boston College vs. Merrimack, at Boston University
- Two different conference opponents are on tap this weekend for #4 Boston College who can clinch the regular season crown and top seed in the Hockey East Tournament this weekend. The Eagles control their own destiny and two wins can secure the title for the 17th time in program history.
- Most recently BC took two wins from then-#10 Northeastern last week. Thursday night, the Eagles skated to a 3-2 win, with two goals coming from senior Julius Mattila (Tampere, Finland) with one of them going down as the game-winner.
- Friday night was one for the record books, as the Eagles scored 10 goals to collect a 10-1 win over Huskies. It has been seven years since the Eagles last scored double-digit tallies, when they potted 11 goals to defeat Army in a shutout in 2013.
- Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week, Alex Newhook (St. John's, New.) walked away with a three point night on Friday (1g, 2a), extending his point streak to eight games (8g, 9a.) Fellow rookie Matt Boldy (Millis, Mass.) and sophomore Marc McLaughlin (North Billerica, Mass.) each netted a pair of goals to add to the victory.
- Merrimack swept then-#15 Providence for the first time since 2008, earning four conference points. Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week Troy Kobryn (Hillsborough, N.J.) recorded 30 saves on Friday in a 2-0 victory and 41 saves on Saturday for a total of 71 on the weekend.
- Saturday night the Eagles will face off for the third time this season against Boston University with the regular season crown on the line. BC claimed victory in the first match up of the season, a 4-3 win on Jan. 18. In the Beanpot semifinals, the two teams tied, 4-4, before BU scored in double overtime for advancement.
- The Terriers lined up with UConn last weekend, dropping a pair of games to the Huskies.
#8 Massachusetts vs. UConn (home-and-home)
- #8 UMass heads into a two-game series with the UConn Huskies this weekend, starting Friday night at the XL Center. During the 2018-19 season, the two teams met up three times, UMass winning the first two and UConn claiming the third game.
- This past weekend, the Minutemen split a series with then-#14 UMass Lowell. Hobey Baker nominee John Leonard (Amherst, Mass.) posted his 50th career goal in a 3-2 loss on Friday night, and followed up with a hat-trick on Saturday to help UMass to a 5-3 victory. This was Leonard's second hat-trick in his last three outings.
- Four huge conference points were earned for the UConn Huskies last weekend as they swept Boston University for the first time in program history. The Huskies are now 5-1-0 in their last six games.
- Friday night, the Huskies took the Terriers into overtime, where Alexander Payusov (Montreal, Que.) netted the game-winner for a 4-3 win. The three other goals came from Carter Turnbull (Nanaimo, B.C.), Kale Howarth (Red Deer, Alta.), and Hockey East Player of the Week Benjamin Freeman (Falmouth, Maine), who forced the game into overtime with just 56 seconds to go in regulation.
- Saturday night's 6-1 road win was fueled by UConn's top line, which a 10-point night, including a hat-trick from Payusov, a career-best four-point (1g, 3a) performance from Freeman, and three assists from Turnbull. Freeman clocked out of the weekend with a total of seven points (2g, 5a) and two game-winning assists.
#15 Maine at #19 Providence
- A top-20 match up is set for Saturday night at Schneider Arena, where #19 Providence will host #15 Maine. In the first game of their 2019-20 season, the Friars defeated Maine 7-0 in the first game of the Hockey East season on Oct. 5.
- Maine is 7-1-1 in their last eight games, while Providence is 2-5-1 in that same span. Maine will finish its season with two games against the Friars with a chance to lock up home ice in the quarterfinals with a sweep depending on results in other contests.
- Maine hosted Vermont last weekend, where they took the first game in a 6-1 win s and skated to a 0-0 draw the following night. Senior Mitchell Fossier (Alpharetta, Ga.) tallied four points (1g, 4a) in Friday's 6-1 win, moving past Paul Kariya on Maine's all-time point list. Fossier now has 127 career points on 37 goals and 90 assists.
- The Friars fell twice to Merrimack last weekend in a home-and-home series. The pair of Saturday goals came from Patrick Moynihan (Millis, Mass.)
#13 Northeastern at Vermont
- The Northeastern Huskies take a trip to Burlington for a crucial two-game set with Vermont. These two squads met three times last season as Northeastern claiming all three victories.
- The Huskies look to regain momentum for the last push of the regular season after falling twice to #4 Boston College last weekend. Thursday night's battle ended in a 3-2 setback, followed up by a 10-1 defeat on the road on Friday.
- The Catamounts most recently returned from Orono, Maine, where they earned one conference point from the Black Bears in a two-game series. Friday night, Vermont dropped a one-goal lead which they gained from an early goal from Bryce Misely (Calgary, Alta.) The game went down as a 6-1 loss when the final buzzer sounded.
- The Catamounts bounced back to take Maine into an overtime period on Saturday night, with a rare outcome of a 0-0 draw after the overtime was played.
- Stefanos Lekkas (Elburn, Ill.), recorded 34 saves in Friday's contest and an additional 33 on Saturday, totaling 67 saves on the weekend. Lekkas is now the Hockey East all-time overall career saves leader. His 3,816 stops in a Catamounts uniform is the most career saves by any goalie in league history.
#12 UMass Lowell vs New Hampshire (home and home)
- The #12 River Hawks share a home-and-home weekend with New Hampshire beginning Friday night at the Tsongas Center. In the three meet ups between these two in the 2018-19 season, the Wildcats and UMass Lowell skated to two 2-2 draws, and the Wildcats claimed one game as a win.
- This past weekend, UML split a two-game series with #8 UMass. Friday's 3-2 victory was powered by goals from Zach Kaiser (Orangeville, Ont.), Carl Berglund (Hammaro, Sweden), and Chris Schutz (Keller, Texas) and a 38-save outing for netminder Tyler Wall (Leamington, Ont.)
- Wall he turned away a career-best 45 shots on Saturday night in 5-3 loss for the River Hawks.
- The Wildcats enjoyed a bye last weekend after going 2-4-0 in their last six. The four points on the line are crucial to New Hampshire as the sit in ninth place in the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings, but just four points out of sixth place and six out of third place.
