HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES
UConn traveled to Alfond Arena and went unbeaten against No. 5 Maine, going 1-0-1 on the road thanks to a four-goal outing from Joey Muldowney in Friday’s 4-2 victory. The Huskies are now 4-0-1 in 2025 and sit ninth in the PairWise rankings.
No. 2 Boston College swept No. 6 Providence and snapped the Friars’ eight-game winning streak as Jacob Fowler pitched a 24-save shutout on Friday as part of three-win week for the sophomore. Rookie Teddy Stiga racked up five points (2g, 3a) to lead the NCAA in points last week.
No. 9 Boston University swept No. 17 New Hampshire in a home-and-home as Ryan Greene scored the game-winning goal in each contest for the Terriers, who are now 9-2-1 in their last 11 outings.
Northeastern’s Cameron Whitehead earned his first weekend sweep of the season with a two-win stint at Vrmont, stopping 47 shots and posting a .940 save percentage. Jack Williams scored both game-winning goals for the Huskies.
Merrimack earned a weekend split with Massachusetts as rookie Tyler Young scored three goals for the Warriors. Nils Wallstrom made
31 saves in Friday’s win and has won each of his last three starts.
The next night, Cole O’Hara scored his first collegiate hat trick for
the Minutemen in a 5-2 win.
HOCKEY EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Joey Muldowney - UConn
Joey Muldowney (So., F; Lake View, N.Y.) scored all four goals Friday night in a 4-2 road win to upset No. 5 Maine. His four tallies were
the most in the NCAA all of last week and the first four-goal game for
a Hockey East player in league play since 2021.
PRO AMBITIONS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Teddy Stiga - Boston College
Teddy Stiga (Fr., F; Sudbury, Mass.) had five points on two goals and three
assists, and no player in the NCAA had more points. In a 3-0-0 week for the
Eagles, Stiga scored two goals and added three assists. The freshman recorded three points with one goal and two assists in BC’s 4-1 road win over
No. 6 Providence on Saturday night. He also posted a goal in the mid-week
win over Harvard, and one assist in the 3-0 home win against the Friars on
Friday.
HOCKEY EAST DEFENDER OF THE WEEK
Cole Hutson - Boston University
Cole Hutson (Fr., D; Chicago, Ill.) netted a highlight-reel goal as part of a
two-point effort in Friday’s 6-3 victory at No. 18 UNH before setting up classmate Cole Eiserman’s tying goal in Saturday’s eventual 2-1 overtime win
over the Wildcats. Hutson is now on a five-game point streak (3g, 7a).

Jacob Fowler (So., G; Melbourne, Fla.) posted three wins in three starts this past week for the Eagles. The sophomore allowed just two goals and made 74 saves over the three games, including a 24-save shutout on Friday over No. 6 Providence. Fowler followed up that performance by making 30 saves in a 4-1 victory on the road against the Friars on Saturday.
Cameron Whitehead (So., G; Orleans, Ont.) recorded his first sweep of
the season with two wins at Vermont,
totaling 47 saves in two games and
finishing with a .940 save percentage.
HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS
James Hagens, BC (Fr., F; Hauppauge, N.Y.) Posted five points in three wins this past week for BC, finishing with one goal and four assists, including three primary helpers. He played a key role in the weekend sweep over No. 6 Providence, posting one goal and one assist in Friday’s home victory before following that up with two assists in Saturday’s road win.
Lukas Gustafsson, BC (Jr., D; Atlanta, Ga.) Recorded two assists to go along with three blocked shots this past week for the Eagles. The junior posted one assist in the victory over Harvard and then registered the primary assist on BC’s power-play goal in the 4-1 road victory over No. 6 Providence on Saturday.
Ryan Greene, BU (Jr., F; Paradise, N.L.) Scored the game-winning goal in both games of a sweep of No. 18 UNH, breaking a 3-3 deadlock in the third period of Friday’s 6-3 win before scoring 1:00 into overtime of Saturday’s 2-1 victory. Greene also had a first-period goal in Friday’s triumph and finished the weekend as a plus-three.
Brehdan Engum, BU (Gr., D; Burnsville, Minn.) In a sweep of UNH, was a plus-one with two blocked shots in Friday’s victory and then led all players with five blocks, including a kick save on the goal line in the third period to keep the game tied, in Saturday’s overtime triumph.
Mathieu Caron, BU (Sr., G; Abbotsford, B.C.) Recorded a season-high 39 saves in Friday’s victory at Whittemore Center, stopping all 15 shots he faced in the third period. That included six stops during three minutes of 5-on-4 time at the beginning of the third. Caron then helped the BU penalty kill go 5-for-5 in a 2-1 overtime win on Saturday. In addition to assisting on the overtime-winner, Caron stopped 34 shots to finish the weekend with a .948 save percentage.
Kai Janviriya, UConn (Fr., D; Bloomfield, Mich.) Finished a 1-0-1 weekend at Maine with three assists, helping UConn upset the Black Bears, 4-2, Friday Night, and then assisted on the game-tying goal Saturday.
Tyler Muszelik, UConn (Jr., G; Long Valley, N.J.) Had 26 saves while allowing just two goals helping UConn upset No. 5 Maine Friday evening.
Nolan Renwick, Maine (Sr., F; Milestone, Sask.) Scored a goal and recorded 24 face-off wins over a 0-1-1 weekend against UConn. Also had five shots on goal and one blocked shot.
Oskar Komarov, Maine (Fr., F; Uusikaarlepyy, Finland) Found the back of the net in Maine’s 2-2 tie with UConn. He had three shots and nine face-off wins.
Brandon Holt, Maine (Jr., D; Grand Forks, N.D.) Recorded one assist, four shots on goal and three blocked shots in two games with UConn.
Jak Vaarwerk, UML (So., F; Clarence, N.Y.) Scored one goal and assisted on another in a 3-2 setback on Saturday.
TJ Schweighardt, UML (Jr., D; Manahawkin, N.J.) Had an assist in Saturday’s game against Stonehill, a plus-one rating and two blocked shots.
Tyler Young, MC (Jr., F; Lancaster, Mass.) Scored three goals in a split with UMass, with a two-goal effort in Merrimack’s 5-2 setback on Saturday.
Seamus Powell, MC (So., D; Marcellus, N.Y.) Had an assist in both games against UMass this weekend and now has seven points in the last seven games.
Nils Wallstrom, MC (So., G; Skelleftea, Sweden) Made 31 saves in the win over UMass on Friday and has won his last three starts, all in the new year.
Jack Williams, NU (Jr., F; Biddeford, Maine) Tallied four points in two games in a sweep of Vermont. He netted tallied three goals, including both game-winning strikes, and added one assist. Additionally, he put four shots on net and had 18 faceoff wins.
