HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES
UConn opened its Hockey East slate with a pair of one-goal wins over red-hot Holy Cross to end the Crusaders’ four-game winning streak. The Huskies are now unbeaten in their last seven (6-0-1) and sit at 7-2-1 on the year.
New Hampshire’s offense exploded for 13 goals in a weekend sweep of Merrimack, paced by five points (3g, 2a) from Addison Spitz and a four-point (2g, 2a) output from rookie Josie Linn. The Wildcats are 2-1-0 to start Hockey East play.
Vermont took four points from visiting Boston College with a thrilling 4-3 win and 0-0 draw. Ellie Simmons stopped 48 of 51 shots she faced, including a 31-save shutout on Saturday, to deliver league points for the Catamounts. The Eagles’ Grace Campbell stopped 70 of 74 on the the weekend, with a 37-save shutout of her own.
Northeastern took wins over Boston University to improve to 6-2-0 on the year. Allie Lalonde netted the game-winning goal with just 28.4 seconds left in the game in Friday’s 3-1 win while Kristina Allard scored the game-winning goal and added two assists and six blocked shots in a 7-3 win the next day.
Providence earned four points in two overtime games against Maine,
sealing a 4-3 overtime win off the stick of Sarah Davies with just 37
seconds left before skating to a 1-1 draw and converting a shootout
win into an extra league point. Hope Walinski made 50 saves on 53
shots in an undefeated 1-0-1 weekend.
HOCKEY EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Addison Spitz - New Hampshire
Addison Spitz (So., F; Grosse Pointe, Mich.) earned her first career
points as a Wildcat with a two-goal performance in UNH’s 8-2 win
over Merrimack on Friday. Spitz followed Friday’s performance with
a team-leading three points (1g, 2a) in a 5-2 victory the next day, finishing the weekend with a. .375 shooting percentage and team-high
five points (3g, 2a).
PRO AMBITIONS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Josie Linn - New Hampshire
Josie Linn (Fr., F; Excelsior, Minn.) had a career weekend, logging
four points (2g, 2a) in a sweep of Merrimack. She scored a goal in
Friday’s 8-2 win before posting a team-high three points (1g, 2a) in a
5-2 win on Saturday, collecting both her first career multi-point game
and first career three-point game. Additionally, in the face-off circle,
Linn went 19-33 (.576) and finished with a plus-five rating.
ARMY ROTC DEFENDER OF THE WEEK
Kristina Allard - Northeastern
Kristina Allard (Sr., D; Kingston, N.H.) led all Huskies with four
points in a weekend sweep over Boston University. On Friday, Allard
assisted the game-winning goal with just 28.4 seconds remaining
in the third period. On Saturday, Allard posted a career-high three
points, scoring the game-winning goal, and two assists. Allard added
on six blocked shots and finished the weekend with a plus-two rating.
STOP IT GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK
Ellie Simmons - Vermont
Ellie Simmons (Jr., G; Buffalo, N.Y.) went 1-0-1 for Vermont to open
up the Catamounts’ conference play schedule. Over a two-game
set with BC, she posted a .941 save percentage, stopping 48 of 51
shots. She earned her second shutout of the season on Saturday in
a 0-0 draw, making 31 saves.
HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS
Ava Thomas, BC (Fr., F; Downington, Pa.) Paced the Eagles offensively in a weekend series at Vermont, posting a goal and an assist in Friday’s 4–3 setback.
Olivia Maffeo, BC (So., D; Canton, Mass.) Anchored the Eagles’ blue line in a two-game set at Vermont, helping BC’s penalty kill go 9-for-10 on the weekend. The junior defender scored a shootout-winning goal in Saturday’s 0–0 draw to secure the extra Hockey East point for the Eagles.
Grace Campbell, BC (Sr., G; Kensington, Md.) Stopped 70 of 74 shots across two starts at Vermont. The junior posted a 37-save shutout in Saturday’s 0–0 draw and allowed just four goals on the road, finishing the weekend with a .946 save percentage and earning First Star honors on Saturday.
Clara Yuhn, BU (Sr., F; Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) Netted two goals against No. 12 Northeastern, including the Terriers’ lone goal on Friday.
Lucy Thiessen, BU (Fr., D; Alexandria, Va.) Dished out a helper in Friday’s 3-1 setback to No. 12 Northeastern.
Michelle Pasiechnyk, BU (Gr., G; Ottawa, Ont.) Made 47 saves in a two-start weekend and earned an assist on Saturday.
Kyla Josifovic, UConn (Sr., F; Burlington, Ont.) In Saturday’s 4-3 win over Holy Cross she assisted the Huskies’ first goal and later netted the game-winning goal in the overtime period, marking her third multi-point game this season. In the weekend sweep of the Crusaders, she logged four shots on goal and blocked two shots.
Julia Stephen, UConn (Jr., D; Burlington, Ont.) Recorded two assists, five shots, and two blocked shots in the Huskies’ weekend sweep of Holy Cross.
Tia Chan, UConn (Gr., G; Hamilton, Ont.) In her lone start of the weekend, she made 21 saves in a 3-2 win on Saturday.
Violet Carroll, HC (Fr., F; Milton, Mass.) Scored a career-high three points during Saturday’s 4-3 overtime setback at No. 8 UConn, with two goals and one assist. Her second goal of the day came with just 2:02 remaining in the third period, tying the game at 3-3 to force overtime. The rookie currently leads the team in scoring with 13 points on five goals and eight assists.
Frederikke Foss, Maine (So., F; Gentofte, Denmark) Found the back of the net in a pair of overtime contests against Providence. She put four shots on goal and ended the weekend with a plus-two rating.
Ali Altiman, Maine (Fr., F; Thamesville, Ont.) Assisted on a goal in each game of a 0-1-1 weekend against Providence.
Addison Finn, UNH (So., D; Stillwater, Minn.) Earned her first point of the season with an assist alongside a shot block and team-high plus-four rating in UNH’s 8-2 win over Merrimack on Friday. In Saturday’s contest, Finn blocked a career-high six shots while also earning a plus-one rating.
Sedona Blair, UNH (Jr., G; Eden Prairie, Minn.) Denied 25-of-27 shots faced for a .926 save percentage in a 5-2 win over Merrimack on Saturday, improving her season record to 2-3-1.
Allie Lalonde, NU (Jr., F; Irvine, Calif.) Posted one goal and two assists in a weekend sweep over Boston University. Lalonde netted the game-winner with just 28.4 seconds left in the game on Friday and followed it up with two assists in Saturday’s win.
Lisa Jonsson, NU (So., G; Stockholm, Sweden) Went 2-0-0 on the weekend to guide Northeastern to backS-to-back wins over Boston Univeristy. Jönsson made 47 saves over the two games, averaging a .922 save percentage.
Audrey Knapp, PC (Jr., F; Stevens Point, Wis.) Posted three points (1g, 2a) including two primary assists in a four-point weekend against Maine.
Cristina Cavaliere, PC (Sr., D; Mississauga, Ont.) Dished out three helpers and blocked four shots in a 1-0-1 weekend against Maine.
Hope Walinski, PC (Gr., G; Lincoln, R.I.) Made 50 saves on 53 shots in an undefeated 1-0-1 weekend against Maine.
Stella Retrum, UVM (Jr., F; Maple Grove, Minn.) Scored a goal and added an assist in a 4-3 win over Boston College on Friday. She also had a game-high six shots on goal, a season-high total.
Makena Lloyd-Howe, UVM (Fr., F; Tumbler Ridge, B.C.) Dished out an assist on Vermont’s game-winning goal in 4-3 victory over Boston College on Friday, her first collegiate helper. She put three shots on goal in an undefeated weekend against the Eagles.
Josie Hemp, UVM (So., D; Chanhassen, Minn.) Scored a power-play goal and handed out an assist in a 4-3 win over Boston College on Friday for her first career multi-point game. She blocked three shots in a 1-0-1 weekend for the Catamounts and put seven pucks on net.
