Terriers Head to the NCAA Tournament for First Time Since 2015

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

Boston University won the 2025 Hockey East Women’s Tournament, 3-2, in overtime over Northeastern. It is the Terriers first championship since 2015 and sixth in program history, tying for the most Bertagna Trophies of any Hockey East program (Northeastern). The Terriers went to OT in each of their three playoff games, the first team in league history to go to OT in every playoff contest.

Sydney Healey scored the winning goal 4:43 into overtime, sending the Terriers into the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015. BU will travel to Wisconsin to play Clarkson on March 13 at 8:00 p.m.

BU head coach Tara Watchorn is the first person to win the Bertagna Trophy as both a player (2010, 2012) and a coach.

With the win, the last three Hockey East Tournament champions are three separate programs for just the second time in league history (2023, Northeastern; 2024, UConn; 2025, Boston University). The last time this happened was a stretch from 2009-11, when New Hampshire, Boston University and Boston College claimed the tournament title consecutively.

Northeastern’s Lily Shannon scored two goals for the Huskies in the championship game, tying the record for most tallies in the title tilt. Rookie netminder Lisa Jönsson made 55 saves in the final two contests of the season, including 36 in the semifinals at #1 UConn.
