23rd Championship Game Set for March 8 at UConn

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

#1 UConn and #5 Northeastern are set for a 6:00 p.m. clash on NESN in the Hockey East semifinals. The pair has clashed in the late stages several times recently, including the 2024, 2022, 2020, and 2018 title games and the 2021 semifinals. Northeastern is looking to advance to the championship game for the ninth year in a row, while UConn is aiming for its first-ever consecutive appearances in the trophy match. Northeastern holds an overall edge of 8-2 in the postseason over UConn.

#2 Boston University will host #3 Boston College for the eighth all-time postseason meeting of the Comm. Ave rivals and for the first time since 2019. The Terriers carry a 4-3 overall edge into the contest, although the Eagles are 2-1 in semifinal match ups between the two. BU went 2-1-0 against BC in the regular season, with the loss coming in overtime.

Hockey East announced finalists for three major awards yesterday. Coach of the Year finalists are Chris MacKenzie (UConn), Matt Kelly (Providence), and Tara Watchorn (Boston University). Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Year finalists include, Lauren Glaser (Boston College), Lisa Jönsson (Northeastern), and Claire Murdoch (UConn) and in the running for Player of the Year are Tia Chan (UConn), Reichen Kirchmair (Providence), and Julia Pellerin (Boston College).

Tickets to the 2025 Hockey East Women’s Championship game can be purchased online at UConnHuskies.evenue.net/events/WHE. The game is set for Saturday, March 8 at Toscano Family Ice Forum and will be broadcast live nationally on ESPNEWS.

Julia Pellerin - Boston College
Riley Walsh - Boston University

Julia Pellerin (So., F; Windham, N.H.) exploded for a three-point period, scoring twice, including the game-winning goal, and adding a primary assist in the span of 4:23 of the second period in Saturday’s 4-3 win over Maine in the Quarterfinals.

Riley Walsh (Jr., F; Duxbury, Mass.) scored the overtime winning goal and added two primary assists for a three-point night in a 4-3 win over Vermont in the Quarterfinals.


PRO AMBITIONS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Lisa Jönsson - Northeastern

Lisa Jönsson (Fr., G; Stockholm, Sweden) posted 22 saves to backbone Northeastern to a 3-2 victory at fourth-seeded Providence. The win marked the first postseason victory of Jönsson’s career. She is the first freshman Northeastern netminder to earn a postseason victory since Aerin Frankel in 2017-18.

Maeve Kelly - Boston University

Maeve Kelly (Jr., D; Victoria, Minn.) played a crucial role in the Terriers’ 4-3 win over Vermont in the Quarterfinals, scoring the second goal of her career to tie the game at 1-1 in the first period before dishing out the primary assist on the equalizer with just 10:01 remaining in regulation before the Terriers secured an overtime victory.

Tia Chan - UConn

Tia Chan (Sr., G; Hamilton, Ont.) stopped all 32 shots she faced from Merrimack in a 4-0 win in the Quarterfinals. It was her fifth shutout of the season and she has allowed two or fewer goals in five of her last six starts.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Grace Campbell, BC (Jr., G; Kensington, Md.) Stopped 25 shots in a 4-3 win over Maine in the Quarterfinals, including multiple game-saving stops to keep the Eagles’ in the lead by one.

Alanna Devlin, BC (Fr., F; Marshfield, Mass.) Netted Boston College’s first goal in Saturday’s 4-3 win over Maine.

Keri Clougherty, BC (Sr., D; Lynn, Mass.) Recorded her fourth goal of the season on the power play this weekend. She now has a career high in goals (4), assists (7), and points (11) this season.

Jada Habisch, UConn (Gr., F; Buffalo, Minn.) Netted two goals to stretch her goal streak to three games (4g) in a 4-0 win over Merrimack in the Quarterfinals.

Claire Murdoch, UConn (Fr., F; Toronto, Ont.) Dished out two assists in UConn’s 4-0 Quarterfinal playoff win over Merrimack. She was also named a finalist for Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Year on Monday.

Sophie Robinson, UConn (Gr., D; Baxter, Minn.) Opened the scoring in Saturday’s 4-0 Quarterfinal win over Merrimack. Robinson netted her third goal just five minutes into the first period. She recorded three shots on goal, two blocks, and a plus-three rating.

Mikayla Boarder, Maine (So., F; Richland, Wa.) Registered a goal and an assist in Saturday’s Quarterfinal at Boston College.

Margaux Favre, MC (Fr., G; Fribourg, Switzerland) Earned a 3-1 road win with 33 saves at New Hampshire in the Opening Round and stopped 31 shots at UConn in the Quarterfinals.

Abby Poitras, MC (Fr., D; Whitby, Ont.) Recorded the opening goal in Merrimack’s 3-1 win over UNH on Wednesday in a 3-1 Opening Round playoff win.

Allie Lalonde, NU (So., F; Irvine, Calif.) Posted a goal and an assist to guide Northeastern to a 3-2 victory at fourth-seeded Providence. Lalonde had the assist on the game-winning goal and posted her third multi-point game of the season.

Jules Constantinople, NU (Jr., D; East Haven, Conn.) Earned two assists to guide Northeastern to a 3-2 victory over fourth-seeded Providence. Constantinople’s two assists ties her career-high and marks her third multi-point effort of the season. She has posted 18 points on the season, tied for the third-best mark among all Hockey East defensemen.

Cecilia DesLauriers, UVM (So., F; St. Albans, Vt.) Scored the overtime goal to lift Vermont to an Opening Round victory over Holy Cross, 3-2.

Sydney Correa, UVM (Sr., G; Georgetown, Mass.) Stopped 18 shots in a 3-2 overtime in against Holy Cross before kicking out 44 at BU in another overtime game for Vermont.
