AMESBURY, Mass. - The Boston University Terriers (24-11-2/18-7-2 HE) earned an automatic bid into the National Tournament after claiming the school’s sixth Hockey East Women’s Tournament crown on Saturday in a 3-2 overtime victory against Northeastern at UConn’s Toscano Family Ice Forum.
The 2025 national tournament field will again feature 11 teams and has seeded the top five programs. Those seeded teams include top overall seed and WCHA champion Wisconsin, defending national champion No. 2 Ohio State, ECAC champion No. 3 Cornell, and No. 4 Minnesota, who all advance automatically to the quarterfinals on March 15 to compete against No. 5 Colgate.
Rounding out the field is Boston University, Clarkson, Minnesota Duluth, St. Lawrence, Atlantic Hockey America champion Penn State, and NEWHA champion Sacred Heart.
Boston University will square off with Clarkson on Thursday, March 13 at 8:00 p.m. The winner will advance to face No. 1 Wisconsin on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. Both games will stream on ESPN+.
Five teams received their automatic bids by winning their conference tournaments, while the remaining six at-large bids were selected by the women’s ice hockey committee. The NC women’s ice hockey championship is a single-elimination tournament. The top four overall seeds serve as the host sites for the regionals. Those top four teams are the No. 1 seeds, and the fifth overall program is the top No. 2 seed.
The 2025 National Tournament games begin on Thursday, March 13 at regional sites with quarterfinal action taking place on March 15. The Frozen Four will take place at Ridder Arena at the University of Minnesota, with the semifinals on Friday, March 21 and the national title game on Sunday, March 23. Tickets are on sale now.
Both Frozen Four semifinal games will be streamed live on ESPN+ on, Friday, March 21. The first semifinal game will air on ESPN+ at 5:00 p.m. and the second at 8:30 p.m. The national championship game will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 23 on ESPNU.
