Hockey East League Play Begins in Earnest As Final Full Month Kicks Off

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

The 2025 Dunkin’ Women’s Beanpot begins tonight at Matthews Arena and broadcast on NESN and ESPN+. Boston University and Harvard square off at 4:30pm while Northeastern looks to defend its 2024 crown with a semifinal matchup against Boston College at 7:30pm. Tickets to the third-place and championship game, set for Jan. 21 at TD Garden, are on sale now.

Second half league play began in earnest last weekend with New Hampshire toppling Merrimack, 5-3, off a hat trick from Kira Juodikis, including a shorthanded tally.

Maine took a 3-2 decision from Harvard on Friday, thanks in part to three points from Adriana van de Leest, who netted two goals and had the primary assist on the game-winning goal in overtime. Julia Bachetti made 20 saves in her return to the Black Bears lineup after missing 18 games due to injury.

Providence swept Holy Cross in conference action as Hope Walinski stopped 41 of 42 shots and posted a 21-save shutout in a 1-0 win on Saturday. The six points launched the Friars in to fifth place in the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings and into a position for a bye into the quarterfinals.

Vermont took a weekend split with No. 13 Boston University, dropping a 2-1 decision before skating to a 3-2 victory on Saturday. Sydney Correa made just her second start of the season and stopped 20 of 22 shots for the Catamounts in the win.

Adriana van de Leest - Maine

Kira Juodikis (Sr., F; LaSalle, Ont.) recorded her second career hat trick with three goals to lift the Wildcats to a 5-3 win at Merrimack last Friday. Her other stats in that game included six faceoff wins, a plus-three rating and one block. She scored the second of two goals 31 seconds apart to give the ‘Cats a 2-0 lead at 7:36. Juodikis struck again at 11:09 of the first period to reestablish a two-goal lead, 3-1. She scored UNH’s first shorthanded goal of the season with 48 seconds remaining in the second stanza to complete the hat trick and give UNH a 5-2 lead. In a 4-0 loss at #12 BC last Tuesday, Juodikis won 10 of 16 faceoffs.

Adriana van de Leest (Sr., F; Kelowna, B.C.) had a three-point game in a 3-2 overtime win at Harvard on Fri day. She scored two goals just 2:03 apart and had the primary assist on the overtime winning goal to go along with a career-high eight shots on net.


PRO AMBITIONS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Eloise Caron - Northeastern

Eloise Caron (Fr., F; Saint-Hyacinthe, Que.) posted three points off one goal and two assists to lead the Huskies to a 4-3 victory over Yale. Caron scored the game-winning goal and her three points tied her career-high. Her 17 points are second-most among Hockey East rookies.

Kyla Bent - Vermont

Kyla Bent (Gr., D; Halifax, N.S.) scored the game-winning goal in a 3-2 win over #13 BU on Saturday. She notched two shots on net for the weekend and two blocked shots, to go with a plus-three rating in a split series with the Terriers.

Hope Walinski - Providence

Hope Walinski (Sr., G; Lincoln, R.I.) won both of her games last weekend in a sweep of Holy Cross, stopping 41 of 42 shots she faced including a 21- save shutout in Saturday’s 1-0 victory.

Gaby Roy, BC (Gr., F; Marshfield, Mass.) Set up the game-winning goal in a 4-0 win over New Hampshire on Tuesday. She also scored BC’s third goal of the game.

Lauren Glaser, BC (Fr., F; Marlborough, Mass.) Handed out two primary assists, including on the game-winning goal, in Tuesday’s 4-0 win over UNH.

Molly Jordan, BC (So., D; Berlin, Conn.) Netted the opening and decisive goal in a 4-0 win over New Hampshire on Tuesday and added an assist for two points.

Grace Campbell, BC (Jr., G; Kensington, Md.) Recorded her third shutout of the season with a 31-save blanking of UNH on Tuesday.

Lilli Welcke, BU (Jr., F; Heidelberg, Germany) Factored on three (1g, 2a) of BU’s four goals in a split weekend at Vermont, including an assist on the game-winning goal in Friday’s 2-1 victory. She won 14 faceoffs and finished with a plus-one rating.

Maggie Hanzel, BU (Sr., D; Rochester, Minn.) Scored BU’s second goal on Saturday on the power play and blocked three shots over the split weekend at Vermont.

Callie Shanahan, BU (Sr., G; Commerce, Mich.) Made 21 saves in Friday’s 2-1 win, her 11th victory of the season and 10th game with 20 or more saves.

Lily Fetch, Maine (So., F; Woodbury, Minn.) Netted the overtime goal in a 3-2 win at Harvard.

Julia Bachetti, Maine (So., G; Tecumseh, Ont.) Returned from an 18-game absence with a 20-save performance in a 3-2 win at Harvard.

Maria Lindberg, MC (So., F; Jonstrop, Sweden) Netted a goal in Friday’s contest with UNH, extending her scoring streak against the Wildcats to four.

Abby Poitras, MC (Fr., D; Whitby, Ont.) Dished out two assists in Merrimack’s 5-3 setback to UNH on Friday, leading the Warriors in points. One assist came on the power-play and she had the second-highest time on ice with 22:27 of work.

Jules Constantinople, NU (Jr., D; East Haven, Conn.) Scored two goals in a 4-3 victory over Yale in the Huskies lone game of the week. Constantinople’s two goals marked her first career multi-goal effort.

Lily Martinson, PC (Sr., D; Allen, Texas) Scored a goal and added an assist on Friday in a 3-1 win over Holy Cross while blocking two shots and registering a plus-two rating.

Lara Beecher, UVM (Jr., F; Buffalo, N.Y.) In a split series with #13 BU, scored once and assisted on another while putting seven shots on net, adding to her 71 shots on the season, good for fifth in Hockey East.

Oona Havana, UVM (Fr., F; Turku, Finland) Scored in a 3-2 win over #13 BU while putting two shots on goal.

Sydney Correa, UVM (Sr., G; Georgetown, Mass.) In just her second start of the season, she posted a .909 save percentage with 20 saves in a 3-2 win over #13 BU on Saturday.
