Hockey East Women's League Prepares For Winter Break With League Games

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

Holy Cross took a 6-0 win over Assumption on Saturday, paced by a hat trick from Charlotte Sonntag. It was the first hat trick for the Crusaders in their Division I history since they joined Hockey East in the 2018-19 season. Abby Hornung stopped every shot she faced against Assumption and made a career-high 49 saves at Brown the next day.

No. 11 Boston College toppled No. 15 Northeastern, 3-0, on a NESN-televised game on Saturday. Rookie defender Olivia Maffeo scored her first career goal which proved to be the game-winning goal in the contest, while Grace Campbell stopped all 23 shots from the Huskies.

Boston College coach Katie Crowley recorded her 400th career win behind the bench on Saturday, leading her team to a 3-0 victory over No. 15 Northeastern.

No. 14 UConn skated to a third-place finish in the Nutmeg Classic, falling to now-No. 14 Yale, 3-1, before claiming a 4-2 win over Sacred Heart the next day.

Charlotte Sonntag - Holy Cross

Charlotte Sonntag (Jr., F; Sun Valley, Idaho) recorded her first career hat trick in a 6-0 win over Assumption. It is the first hat trick for any Holy Cross player since the Crusaders joined Hockey East at the Division I level. She added an assist agaisnt Brown, giving her four points on the weekend to go with six shots on net and 18 face off wins.

Olivia Maffeo - Boston College

Olivia Maffeo (Fr., D; Canton, Mass.) made her first career NCAA goal count as she found the back of the net against No. 15 Northeastern first, opening the scoring with what proved to be the game-winning strike in a 3-0 win over the Huskies.

Abby Hornung - Holy Cross

Abby Hornung (Jr., G; Ashland, Mass.) allowed zero goals in 40:00 of work in an eventual 6-0 win against Assumption, her seventh start allowing two or fewer goals this season. She went on to make a career-high 49 saves in a 3-1 setback at Brown the next day.

Grace Campbell - Boston College

Grace Campbell (Jr., G; Kensington, Md.) stopped all 23 shots from No. 15 Northeastern in a 3-0 win over the Huskies. It marked her first shutout of the year and she improved to 10-4-0 on the season.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Abby Newhook, BC (Sr., F; St. John’s, N.L.) Recorded her 100th career point with her power-play goal against Northeastern on Saturday evening.

Ashley Allard, UConn (So., F; Ottawa, Ont.) Scored two goals and recording an assist in two games this weekend in the Nutmeg Classic. The sophomore forward assisted UConn’s lone goal in Friday’s loss to Yale. Allard led the Huskies in the win over Sacred Heart on Saturday, scoring the games first two goals, and the first multi-goal game of her career. She won 19 of her 30 face-offs on the weekend.

Claire Murdoch, UConn (Fr., F; Toronto, Ont.) Recorded two assists in UConn’s 4-2 win over Sacred Heart on Saturday. The freshman forward now has seven assists this season. Murdoch also logged five shots in Saturday’s win.

Sophie Robinson, UConn (Gr., D; Baxter, Minn.) Led the Huskies blue line this weekend, scoring her first career goal in a UConn uniform in Saturday’s win over Sacred Heart. On the weekend, she had two shots, and three blocks.

Kenzee Hope, HC (RS-Fr., D; Kelowna, B.C.) Had two assists on two of the three goals scored by teammate Charlotte Sonntag in a 6-0 victory over Assumption.

Kiia Lahtinen, Maine (Fr., G; Porvoo, Finland) Made a career high 55 saves in Saturday’s setback to No. 1 Wisconsin.

Margaux Favre, MC (Fr., G; Fribourg, Switzerland) Made 33 saves in Merrimack’s 3-1 win in the Smashville Women’s Hockey Tournament against No. 13 ranked Penn State.

Chloe Goofers, MC (Fr., F; Leduc, Alta.) Had an assist on Sarah Hirst’s opening goal during Merrimack’s 3-1 win in the Smashville Women’s Hockey Tournament against the No. 13 ranked Penn State.

Raice Szott, MC (Gr., D; Daysland, Alta.) Blocked a team-high five shots and scored an empty net goal against No. 13 Penn State.
