Second Half Kicks off With International Series vs. Princeton

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

The 2024 portion of the 2023-24 schedule kicks off this weekend, highlighted by the return of the Friendship Series, a two-game set held in Belfast, Northern Ireland as part of a double-header with the Belfast Giants.

Providence and Princeton will face off on Friday and Saturday morning in Europe, marking the third iteration of the event. Merrimack, Northeastern, Clarkson and Quinnipiac have previously competed in the series, held as part of the annual Friendship Four tournament that began in 2015.

Boston College took a 5-1 win over St. Anselm on Saturday, using five unanswered goals to take the Eagles’ third win of the month. Rookie Sammy Taber racked up four points on two goals and two primary assist, including on the game-winning strike.

Maine earned a 6-2 win over Robert Morris in the Battle of the ‘Burgh Tournament at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex, Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania after dropping a decision to Colgate the day before. Three different Black Bears had three points, including Ida Kuoppala (1g 2a), Ann-Frederique Guay (2g, 1a), and Elise Morphy (3a) and 10 players had at least a point in the victory. Kuoppala, Guay, and Morphy each had four points on the weekend. Maine has won six of its last seven outings.

Ann-Frederique Guay - Maine

Ann-Frederique Guay (Gr., F; St-Lambert-de-Lauzon, Que.) pushed her goal streak to four with three goals and an assist in a split weekend in Pittsburgh against Colgate and Robert Morris. She now has seven goals in her last eight outings and is riding a four-game point streak (5g, 2a).

Sammy Taber (Fr., F; Tewksbury, Mass.) exploded for four points (2g, 2a) in a 5-1 win over St. Anselm on Saturday. Her two assist were both primary helpers, including on the game-winning goal.

Elise Morphy (Sr., D; Regina, Sask.) dished out four assists in a split weekend for Maine at the Battle of the ‘Burgh tournament, including a three-helper night in a 6-2 win over Robert Morris.

Bailey Callaway - Boston College

Bailey Callaway (Fr., G; Jackson, Wyoming) stopped 15 of the 16 shots she faced across 40 minutes of action against St. Anselm in just her second NCAA appearance, backboning the Eagles to a 5-1 win.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Caroline Goffredo, BC (Sr., F; Mount Laurel, N.J.) Scored a goal and added an assist in a 5-1 win over St. Anselm on Saturday.

Abby Newhook, BC (Sr., F; St. John’s, N.L.) Netted her eighth goal of the season on Saturday that proved to be the game-winning strike in a 5-1 win over St. Anselm.

Ida Kuoppala, Maine (Gr., F; Pedersore, Finland) racked up four points on one goal and three assist to push her point streak to four games (2g, 6a). Kuoppala scored the game-winning goal in a 6-2 win over Robert Mor- ris, her fifth game-winning goal of the year which is the most in the NCAA.

Sophia Johnson, Maine (Fr., D; Palmer, Alaska) Handed out an assist in each game of Maine’s split series in Pittsburgh. She finished a plus-two across the two outings and blocked one shot.

Julia Bachetti, Maine (Fr., G; Tecumseh, Ont.) Stopped 61 shots over a 1-1-0 weekend, including a season-high 37 against No. 4 Colgate and 24 against Robert Morris.
