Eagles, Northeastern Enter Full League Weekend On Winning Note

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

Boston College took a 3-2 win at Maine on Saturday, lifting the Eagles into sole possession of first place in the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings. Caroline Goffredo scored two goals in a span of 2:01 in the third period, including the game-winning strike, and assisted on another while freshman Sammy Taber picked up three points and currently leads Hockey East with 22 points and 16 assists.

Northeastern was the only Hockey East team with two wins last week, picking up a 2-1 overtime victory at No. 13 Yale on Tuesday before taking a 6-1 win over Holy Cross in league play. Gwyneth Philips made 62 saves and allowed just two goals in two starts to win her fifth straight game and improve to 13-8-0 on the year. Skylar Irving netted a goal and added two helpers on the weekend for the Huskies.

Just in time to celebrate its 45th anniversary, The Dunkin’ Women’s Beanpot Championship will be played at TD Garden. Providence participated in the third iteration of the Friendship Series, a pair of games played in Belfast, Northern Ireland created as a women’s hockey compliment to the annual Friendship Four Tournament. The Friars squared off with Princeont at SSE Arena, with the Tigers taking home th trophy.

Caroline Goffredo (Sr., F; Mount Laurel, N.J.) scored two goals in 2:01 of the third period, including the game-winning strike, and assisted on another in Saturday’s 3-2 victory at Maine to give the Eagles the sole lead in the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings.

Skylar Irving (Jr., F; Kingston, Mass.) tallied one goal and two assists in a 2-0-0 week for the Huskies. Irving assisted both Husky goals in a 2-1 overtime victory at No. 14/13 Yale, including the primary assist on the OT winner, and then posted a power-play helper in a 6-1 win at Holy Cross.

Sammy Taber - Boston College

Sammy Taber (Fr., F; Tewksbury, Mass.) scored once and dished out two assists in a 3-2 win at Maine, getting involved in every goal for the Eagles in their lone game this weekend. Taber now leads the Eagles in points (22) and assists (16) and paces Hockey East in the same categories with 13 and 17, respectively.

Jules Constantinople - Northeastern

Jules Constantinople (So., D; East Haven, Conn.) netted the game-tying goal in the third period on the power play in an eventual 2-1 overtime victory at No. 14/13 Yale. She then posted an assist on the Huskies’ power-play goal in the 6-1 win at Holy Cross. Constantinople also registered three blocks over the two games and finished with a plus-two rating.

Gwyneth Philips - Northeastern

Gwyneth Philips (Gr., G; Athens, Ohio) posted 62 saves while averaging a 1.03 GAA and .969 save percentage in a 2-0-0 week, the only league goaltender to win two games. Philips posted a season-high 45 saves, including four in overtime, in a 2-1 overtime win at No. 14/13 Yale and then stopped 17 of 18 saves in the victory at Holy Cross.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Keri Clougherty, BC (Jr., D; Lynn, Mass.) Led both teams with four blocked shots in a 3-2 win at Maine and has now blocked 34 on the year, tops among all Eagles.

Grace Campbell, BC (So., G; Kensington, Md.) Stopped 39 of 41 shots she faced in a 3-2 road victory at Maine on Saturday, posting a .950 save percentage. She improved to 10-3-2 in Hockey East play.

Megan Woodworth, UConn (So., F; Berwick, N.S.) In a two-game set at No. 2 Minnesota, posted two goals and one assist for the Huskies.

Ainsley Svetek, UConn (Gr., D; Burlington, Ont.) Scored her first goal of the season and blocked five shots in a two-game series at No. 2 Minnesota.

Mikayla Boarder, Maine (Fr., F; Richland, Wa.) Picked up two points, one goal and one assist, factoring in on both goals of a 3-2 setback to No. 13 Boston College.

Rylie Jones, NU (Fr., D; North Chelmsford, Mass.) Posted three assists in the Huskies 2-0-0 week. Jones had the primary assist on the first goal in a 2-1 overtime win at No. 14/13 Yale and followed it up with a two-assist outing in a 6-1 victory over Holy Cross.

Evelyne Blais-Savoie, UVM (Jr., F; San Jose, Calif.) Recorded her second three-point game of the season in Vermont’s 6-0 win over Saint Michael’s on Tuesday, scoring two goals and adding an additional assist.
