Holy Cross Downs No. 13 Northeastern In 1-0 Shutout

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

Holy Cross earned a weekend split with No. 13 Northeastern, taking a 1-0 victory on Friday off the back of a 40-save shutout from Madison Beck. Beck earned Stop It Goaltender of the Week accolades for the second consecutive week for her performance.

The Huskies rebounded with a 4-2 victory as Megan Carter posted three assists, a career-best. Carter tallied three blocks through two games against the Crusaders and her six assists on the season are tied to lead all Hockey East defensemen.

Vermont improved to 4-0-0 in league play to start 2023-24 with a two-game sweep of New Hampshire. Natalie Mlynkova racked up five points on three goals and two assits to power the Catamount offense and pick up Player of the Week honors.

Boston College swept Merrimack, 3-0 and 3-2, and earned the No. 14 spot in the USCHO.com poll. Rookie forward Sammy Taber scored the first goal of her collegiate career on Friday and it proved to be the game-winning tally. Grace Campbell pitched a 19-save shutout in that game.

Maine and Boston University played a single league game on Saturday with the Terriers emerging with a 4-3 victory in Orono. Lacey Martin had a goal and an assist for BU while Maine’s Ida Kuoppala netted her league-leading eighth and ninth goals of the year. The women’s game between Boston University and Maine scheduled for Friday, October 27 was postponed. A make-up date for the single Hockey East contest will be announced at a later date

Natalie Mlynkova - Vermont

Natalie Mlynkova (Sr., F; Zlin, Czechia) posted her second career hattrick in Vermont’s 6-3 victory over New Hampshire on Friday. Mlýnková added a goal and the game-winning assist in the Catamount’s 2-1 overtime win to secure the series sweep and rack up five points on the weekend. She now has five goals and seven points in her last four games.

Sammy Taber - Boston College

Sammy Taber (Fr., F; Tewksbury, Mass.) recorded her first career goal, a game-winning strike, on a breakaway in Friday’s 3-0 win over Merrimack. On Saturday, Taber fished out an assist as part of a 3-2 win.

Megan Carter (Gr., D; Milton, Ont.) posted three assists in a 4-2 victory over Holy Cross. Carter’s three assists and three points both marked single-game career-highs. Carter tallied three blocks through two games against the Crusaders. Her six assists on the season are tied to lead all Hockey East defensemen.

Madison Beck - Holy Cross

Madison Beck (Sr., G; Lunenburg, N.S.) stopped 40 shots in a 1-0 shutout victory over No. 13 Northeastern on Friday. She then stopped 33 of 36 shots she faced on Saturday to post 73 saves in the weekend split.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Jade Arnone, BC (So., D; Sherborn, Mass.) Netted the game-winning, overtime goal from an impossible angle in Saturday’s 3-2 win at Merrimack. She added an assist in Friday’s 3-0 victory.

Grace Campbell, BC (So., G; Kensington, Md.) Earned her second career shutout on Friday in a 3-0 win against Merrimack, making 19 saves. She mdae 28 saves the next night in 3-2 overtime victory at Merrimack Campbell improves to .918 save percentage this season.

Coryn Tormala, UConn (Gr., F; Chassell, Michigan) Scored two goals and pitched in one assist for three points en route to a 6-1 win over Providence in the Huskies lone conest of the week.

Ainsley Svetek, UConn (Gr., D; Burlington, Ont.) Dished out an assist and added two blocked shots to backbone UConn to a 6-1 victory over Providence.

Megan Warrener, UConn (Jr., G; Stoney Creek, Ont.) Won her second game of the season on Friday, saving 17 shots while allowing one goal against Providence.

Ida Kuoppala, Maine (Gr., F; Pendersore, Finland) Registered her 98th and 99th career points with two goals against Boston University on Saturday. She put five shots on net in the game.

Calli Hogarth, MC (So., G; Barrie, Ont.) Made 74 saves in two games against Boston College last weekend.

Peyton Anderson, NU (Gr., F; Arvada, Colo.) Notched her first career hat trick to lead the Huskies to a 4-2 victory over Holy Cross on Saturday. Anderson’s three goals marked a career-high and her three points tied a career-best. Her seven goals this season lead all Huskies and rank as the second-best mark among Hockey East players.

Alexis Perry, HC (So., F; Brooklin, Ont.) Netted two goals in a weekend split with No. 13 Northeastern, including the overtime winner in Friday’s 1-0 victory.

Payten Evans, MC (So., D; Calgary, Alta.) Scored the game-tying goal to force overtime with 3:50 remaining in regulation on Saturday in an eventual 3-2 setback.

Jessie McPherson, UVM (Sr., G; Chatham, Ont.) Made 43 saves in a weekend sweep of New Hampshire. She made 21 saves on Friday to secure a 6-3 win for Vermont. McPherson the added 22 saves in Vermont’s 2-1 overtime win to propel the Catamounts to 4-0-0 in conference play to begin the year.
