Frozen Fenway 2023 Set for Jan. 6-7

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

The 2023 iteration of Frozen Fenway kicks off Friday with a pair of women’s games that will air on NESN. Holy Cross and Boston University square off in a league match up at 6:30pm on Friday from America’s most beloved ballpark. The unofficial second half of the season began last weekend with both UConn and Merrimack picking up non-conference wins. UConn pitched a shutout, 3-0, on Saturday night against Brown. Megan Warrener stopped all 15 shots she faced to improve to 4-1-0 on the year and Megan Woodworth earned the primary assist on the game-winning goal and scored an insurance goal at 6:03 of the second period.

The Huskies begin the new calendar year by moving into a brand new on-campus facility, the Toscano Family Ice Arena. All remaining home games will be played in the new building, as well as select men’s games. The grand opening will take place Jan. 13-14.

Merrimack took a 4-2 victory over St. Anselm on Saturday night to close out 2022. Rookie defender Payten Evans dished out two assists, including setting up the game-winning, power-play strike and Teghan Inglis) made her return to the Warriors’ lineup for the first time since Nov. 17 with a goal and assist.

New Hampshire and Merrimack travel to Minnesota this weekend to compete in the inaugural East/West Showdown along with St. Cloud.

Megan Woodworth - UConn

Megan Woodworth (Fr., F; Berwick, N.S.) earned the primary assist on the game-winning goal in UConn’s 3-0 victory over Brown on Dec. 31 and scored an insurance goal at 6:03 of the second period. It was the rookie’s first career two-point game in a UConn uniform.

Megan Warrener - UConn

Megan Warrener (So., G; Stoney Creek, Ont.) stopped all 15 shots she faced from Brown to earn a shutout in a 3-0 win. Warrener now has back-to-back blank sheets in her last two starts after pitching a perfect game with 27 saves on Dec. 3 in a 1-0 win at New Hampshire. She currently sits 4-1-0 on the year.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Kathryn Stockdale, UConn (Jr., F; Ottawa, Ont.) Set up two goals, including the game-winning tally, in UConn’s 3-0 victory over Brown on Dec. 31. The two assists were her first of the year and the junior now has five points this season, a new career high.

Madison Oelkers, MC (Sr., F; Warroad, Minn.) Had a goal and an assist in Merrimack’s 4-2 win over St. Anselm on Dec. 31.

Calli Hogarth, MC (Fr., G; Barrie, Ont.) Recorded 23 saves in Merrimack’s 4-2 win over St. Anselm to capture her third win of the season.
