Providence Pitches Two Shutouts in Non-Conference Play

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

Three Hockey East teams earned series sweeps over the weekend as Boston College, Maine and Northeastern all turned aside conference opponents in back-to-back outings.

Hannah Bilka led BC and Hockey East in conference scoring on the weekend with five points on two goals and three assists. She had a short-handed goal and an assist in BC’s win on Thursday before adding three points in Friday’s win with one goal and two assists. She assisted on the game-winning goal on Friday and had 14 shots on goal and a plus-four rating on the weekend.

Maine swept rival New Hampshire twice at home, 3-2 and 4-0. Rookie netminder Brooklyn Oakes earned a 23-save shutout in her first NCAA start while Grace Heiting tallied two goals and one assist, including the game-winning strike in Saturday’s 4-0 win.

Northeastern swept UConn as Alina Mueller became the all-time leading game-winning goal scorer in program history with her 21st career decisive tally on Friday in a 3-0 Huskies win.

Providence goaltender Sandra Abstreiter had back-to-back shutouts in a perfect weekend, backboning the Friars to a pair of non-conference wins over Union and RPI. Lindsay Bochna scored a natural hat trick against Union on Friday, netting the first two goals within 25 seconds, then scored the third goal just 10 minutes later, pacing the Friars to a 7-0 win.

Andrea Braendli stopped all 19 shots she faced against RPI in her Boston University debut to record the 15th shutout of her career on Friday in a 4-0 win.

Brooklyn Oakes - Maine

Brooklyn Oakes (Fr., G; Richmond Hill, Ont.) earned her first career shutout in her first collegiate start, stopping all 23 shots she faced on Saturday from New Hampshire. She backboned the Black Bears to a 4-0 win and a weekend sweep.

Emma Min - Holy Cross

Emma Min (So., D; London, Ont.) helped backbone the Crusaders’ defense to a 2-1 victory over No. 14 Vermont on Friday in their Hockey East season-opener. Min anchored a defense that helped turn aside 35 shots from Vermont and Min blocked five attempts to defend the one-goal margin.

Sandra Abstreiter - Providence

Sandra Abstreiter (Gr., G; Freising, Germany) pitched two shutouts, earning a 7-0 win over Union with 18 saves and stopped all 17 shots she faced from RPI in Saturday’s 2-0 victory.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Grace Campbell, BC (Fr., G; Kensington, Md.) Made 32 saves on 33 shots in her first collegiate start to earn a Hockey East win over Merrimack on Thursday night. She kicked out 17 shots in the second period alone.

Sidney Fess, BC (Jr., D; Clifton Park, N.Y.) Had two points over the weekend and two blocked shots to finish with a plus-three rating. She had an assist in each of Boston College’s win.

Abigail Levy, BC (Gr., G; Congers, N.Y.) Made 22 saves in her 100th collegiate start for her 12th career shutout on Friday in BC’s 4-0 win over Merrimack.

Clara Yuhn, BU (Fr., F; Bloomfield Heights, Mich.) Scored two goals and added 10 faceoff wins in her collegiate debut, helping BU top RPI, 4-0, in the season opener on Friday. Added 12 more faceoff wins against Union on Saturday.

Sydney Healy, BU (Fr., F; Arthur, Ont.) Scored the game-winning goal in her collegiate debut on Friday against RPI and added an assist on Saturday against Union.

Andrea Braendli, BU (Gr., G; Kloten, Switzerland) Stopped all 19 shots she faced against RPI in her BU debut to record the 15th shutout of her career on Friday in a 4-0 win.

Grace Heiting, ME (Fifth, F; Woodbury, Minn.) Tallied two goals and one assist over a weekend sweep of New Hampshire. She opened the scoring in each of the Black Bear’s victories, including the game-winning strike in Saturday’s 4-0 win.

Katie Kaufman, MC (Sr., F; Lake Elmo, Minn.) Recorded the lone goal in Merrimack’s 4-1 defeat to Boston College on Thursday.

Calli Hogarth, MC (Fr., G; Barrie, Ont.) Made 24 saves in Merrimack’s 4-1 setback to Boston College on Thursday.

Teghan Inglis, MC (Sr., D; Okotoks, Alta.) Recorded her first point of the season on Katie Kaufman’s goal during Merrimack’s 4-1 defeat to Boston College on Thursday.

Emma Gorski, MC (Sr., G; Wallaceburg, Ont.) Kicked out 36 saves in a 4-0 setback at Boston College.

Alina Mueller, NU (Sr., F; Winterthur, Switzerland) Became Northeastern’s all-time leading game-winning goal scorer with her 21st career decisive tally on Friday in a 3-0 Huskies win.

Katy Knoll, NU (Sr., F; Amherst, N.Y.) Scored three goals and had four points as the Huskies swept No. 15 UConn in a Hockey East weekend series. She assisted on the game-winning goal in Saturday’s 4-1 victory and scored the next two goals in that contest.

Skylar Irving, NU (So., F; Kingston, Mass.) Dished out three assists and scored a goal of her own in a two-game sweep of UConn. She set up the game-winning goal in Saturday’s 4-1 win and added an insurance goal in Friday’s 3-0 tilt.

Gwyneth Philips, NU (Sr., G; Athens, Ohio) Earned back-to-back wins against UConn on the weekend, including a 26-save shutout on Friday afternoon on NESN. She then stopped 16 of 17 shots she faced in a 4-1 road win on Saturday.

Lindsay Bochna, PC (Jr., F; Toronto, Ont.) Scored a natural hat trick against Union on Friday, Oct. 7. Bochna scored the first two goals within 25 seconds of each other, then scored the third goal just 10 minutes later, pacing the Friars to a 7-0 win.

Reichen Kirchmair, PC (Fr., F; Oakville, Ont.) Had two goals in Friday’s 7-0 win over Union, scoring the second and final strikes of the evening. On Saturday, Kirchmair scored the first goal of the day unassisted, which proved to be the game-winning tally in a 2-0 victory against RPI.

Theresa Schafzahl, UVM (Gr., F; Weiz, Austria) Potted three goals this weekend for the Catamounts and became the program’s all-time leader in points with 107. She had two goals, including the game-winner, Sunday in the Catamounts’ 3-0 win at Holy Cross.
