DURHAM, N.H. - The No. 13/12 Boston University women's ice hockey team (21-9-1, 18-5-1 HE) defeated New Hampshire (15-15-1, 11-13-0 HE) in a 2-1 decision at the Whittemore Center on Friday evening.

BU scored late in the first and added a second goal in the middle stanza to secure a 2-0 lead. The Terriers held that lead until 7:32 in the third when UNH found the back of the net on the power play. BU had a power play, including a 5-on-3 chance, shortly after the UNH goal but did not score. The Terriers had another power-play chance with 2:09 to play and UNH pulled Sedona Blair from between the posts, but BU held on for the 2-1 win.

Seniors Christina Vote and Maggie Hanzel scored BU's goals while junior Maeve Kelly, graduate student Lindsay Bochna, senior Ani FitzGerald and sophomore Neely Nicholson picked up assists. Senior netminder Callie Shanahan made 21 saves in the win.


HOW IT HAPPENED

- The teams skated evenly through most of the opening frame until BU was called for cross checking at 10:17.

- The Terriers were successful on the penalty kill.

- Shanahan made a few key saves with 6:32 to go in the first to keep UNH from scoring.

- At the 17:43 mark, passes from Kelly and Bochna made their way to Vote, who snuck the puck between Blair's legs to give BU a 1-0 lead headed into the first intermission.

- With 8:30 to play in the second, Nicholson and FitzGerald found Hanzel at the blue line, who lifted a shot down the slot which bounced into the goal to put the Terriers up 2-0.

- BU was called for body checking 6:46 into the third.

- The Wildcats found the back of the net on the power play to cut into BU's lead, 2-1.

- Shortly thereafter, UNH went to the box for hooking at the 8:04 mark.

- The Terriers had a 5-on-3 advantage for 1:19 when another Wildcat entered the box for a high stick call.

- No goals were added in BU's favor through the advantages.

- BU went back on the power play with 2:09 to go in the third when UNH was called for roughing.

- UNH took Blair out of the net with 1:45 remaining in the third.

- The Terriers continued to defend well in their own zone to secure the 2-1 win.


GAME NOTES

- The Wildcats narrowly outshot the Terriers 22 to 20.

- BU was 0-for-3 on the power play while UNH was 1-for-2.

- Both Vote and Hanzel's goals were their second of the season.

- Senior Liv Haag and junior Luisa Welcke each blocked two of BU's nine blocked shots.

- Hanzel and Kelly led BU in +/- with both being +2.
