BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Holy Cross women's hockey team traveled to Vermont for a Saturday afternoon showdown. The Crusaders late comeback forced the Catamounts into sudden death with Holy Cross taking the 2-1 overtime victory.
BETWEEN THE PIPES:
Holy Cross: Abby Hornung (W, 2-2), 28 saves
Vermont: Ellie Simmons (L, 0-2), 13 saves
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Neither team scored in the first period. Hornung made six saves.
- Another scoreless period. Hornung tacked on another 12 saves in the second.
- In the third period, the Catamount's Ashley Kokavec snuck one in at 9:59 for the lead. Holy Cross quickly responded with sophomore forward Lulu Rourke's successful forecheck allowed senior forward Madison Michals to net the equalizer at 13:15. The Crusaders ran down the clock to force the game into overtime.
- Junior assistant captain Alexia Moreau secured the Crusader 2-1 victory in overtime netting the game-winner over the goalie's right shoulder. Fellow junior forward Lane Lewis earned the assist.
- Vermont led Holy Cross 29-15 in shots on goal and 25-23 in face-offs to conclude the game.
