HAMILTON, N.Y. - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team was defeated by the No. 7 ranked Colgate Raiders Friday night, 3-8.
Though the Raiders plowed through the game with eight goals, Maine tied Colgate in shots on goal with 27 apiece.
In the first period, Colgate scored four goals before Stephanie Jacob put Maine on the board with a back-door pass from Jamie Grinder and Courtney Colarullo. The Raiders added two more goals in the second period to strengthen their lead.
As Maine's momentum built up, Alyssa Wruble scored an unassisted, shorthanded goal in the third period. Lily Fetch added another goal, with Danielle Brunette earning the assist.
The team killed off all three of Colgate's power play opportunities in the second-ever matchup between the two teams.
