Northeastern Downed By Denver, 5-2

Box Score

DENVER, Colo. - The No. 19 Northeastern men's hockey team fell in game two, 5-2, to the No. 1 University of Denver on Saturday night.

- It was a tight race between the two teams in the opening period to find that first goal of the game. Solid defensive play kept the Huskies in a scoreless game until the final two minutes when Denver converted on the power play for 1-0 lead.

- As play rolled on, Denver would make it a 3-0 game in the opening 11 minutes of the middle frame.

- With 2:55 left on the clock, with his second goal in as many games, junior Cam Lund brought the Huskies within two goals. A crisp feed to the slot from junior Vinny Borgesi created space for Lund to bury one past the gloveside of the Pioneer's netminder.

- Denver scored its fourth goal of the night just 12 seconds into the third period.

- With 7:45 off the clock in the final frame, following in similar fashion to last night's game, sophomore Dylan Hryckowian tacked on the Huskies' second goal of the night. A great poke in the defensive zone by Borgesi led to a breakaway for Hryckowian who finished with a snipe from the right dot for a 4-2 contest.

- Before the final buzzer, the Pioneers would add an empty-net goal for a 5-2 final.

- In 59:25 minutes of action, sophomore goaltender Cameron Whitehead tallied 27 saves.

- Junior defenseman Jackson Dorrington led both teams with three blocked shots and senior Ryan McGuire led the Huskies with 15 faceoff wins.

Northeastern is back at Matthews Arena next weekend for their first home series of the season. They will host the Maine Black Bears on Friday, Oct. 25 and Saturday, Oct. 26.
