Box Score

DENVER, Colo. - On Friday night, the No. 19 Northeastern men's hockey team fell, 5-1, to No. 1 Denver in game one of their weekend series.

- The first period was a battle between the two programs for the entire 20 minutes. Denver was able to go up 1-0 just under six minutes into the game, scoring the only goal of the frame.

- The Huskies led the Pioneers, 9-3, in blocked shots in the opening period and continued to push momentum.

- Denver extended their lead early in the second period to go up 2-0, but mere minutes later Northeastern found its way onto the scoreboard. After a bobbled puck by DU at the blueline, junior Cam Lund and freshman Joe Connor found themselves on a two-on-one breakaway that resulted in Lund's first goal of the season and a 2-1 game.

- Before the middle frame concluded, the Pioneers would tack on two more goals for a 4-1 advantage heading into the final frame.

- Once again, Denver opened the period with an early tally.

- Just over the halfway mark in the final frame, NU buried the puck in the back of the net to make it a 5-2 final score. A beautiful display of passing created a tic-tac-toe goal for sophomore Dylan Hryckowian. Senior Cristophe Tellier and junior Jack Williams were credited with the helpers.

- Sophomore goaltender Cameron Whitehead finished with 40 saves.

- Graduate transfer Jake Higgins and sophomore Jackson Dorrington led NU with three blocks a piece, while senior Ryan McGuire led both teams with 12 faceoff wins.

The two teams will face off once again this weekend for a Saturday night tilt. Puck drop is set for 8 p.m. ET.
