EAST LANSING, Mich. - The second-ranked Boston College men's hockey team and fourth-ranked Michigan State played a back-and-forth battle on Saturday evening at Munn Ice Arena that featured seven goals. The Spartans claimed the 4-3 win to split the weekend.
BC drops to 1-1-0 on the season while Michigan State improves to 3-1-0.
After the Spartans scored midway through the first period to take a 1-0 lead, the Eagles scored twice in the final three minutes of the opening period to take a one-goal lead into the second. Gabe Perreault (Hinsdale, Ill.) got things going when he tucked home a shot from close range off a pass from James Hagens (Hauppauge, N.Y.) on a 2v1.
Ryan Leonard (Amherst, Mass.) scored moments later, firing home a shot on a breakaway after Oskar Jellvik (Täby, Sweden) played a long pass from the BC defensive zone.
Lukas Gustafsson (Atlanta, Ga.) scored in the second period with BC's first power play goal of the season, but the Michigan State offense tallied three of their own to put the Eagles behind 4-3 going into the final frame.
Jacob Fowler (Melbourne, Fla.) made 25 saves while Trey Augustine made 32 saves for the Spartans.
