DURHAM, N.H. - The No. 9 ranked UConn women's hockey team defeated the New Hampshire Wildcats, 5-1 on Friday night at the Whittemore Center.
Senior goaltender Megan Warrener made her third start of the season for the Huskies, making 20 saves in the win.
UConn opened the scoring with under five minutes left in the first period. Senior forward Jada Habisch tallied her first goal of the season, putting the Huskies ahead 1-0 going into the first intermission. UConn outshot UNH 21-8 in the first period.
UConn's offense exploded in the second period, scoring four goals, putting the Huskies in the driver's seat with a 5-0 lead.
Junior forward Brooke Campbell kick started the Huskies stellar period, scoring her second goal of the season just over a minute into the period.
Freshman forward Claire Murdoch made it 3-0 four minutes later, tallying her second goal of the season.
Junior forward Kyla Josifovic extended the Huskies lead to 4-0 with seven minutes left in the period, recording her first goal of the season.
Habisch found the back of the net again with under two minutes left in the second, capping off the outstanding period with the Huskies fifth goal of the night. This is Habisch's eighth career multi-goal game.
New Hampshire scored their lone goal with under ten seconds left in the game, denying UConn of their first shutout of the season.
