DURHAM, New Hampshire - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team tied the University of New Hampshire in the exhibition contest after Mikayla Boarder's pair of goals for the Black Bears on Sunday night.
The Wildcats scored twice in the first twelve minutes of the game, once on the powerplay, to take the early lead. With three minutes left in the first period, sophomore forward Mikayla Boarder batted home a rebound from Sam Morrison's shot to close the gap.
Halfway through the second period, Mikayla Boarder tallied her second goal on a backdoor play. Freshman Brenna Curl and sophomore Lily Fetch earned assists.
After a scoreless third period, followed by a scoreless overtime, UNH won in the final round of the shootout.
The trio of goalies each saw a period of action for Maine. Kiia Lahtinen made 15 saves on 17 shots, Maddy Ryan stopped all five shots she faced, while Julia Bachetti made seven saves on seven shots. The Black Bears outshot the Wildcats 43 to 27 and went 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

Maine will host the Quinnipiac Bobcats for two non-conference contests on Sept. 27/28 for their home-opening weekend. Game times are set for 6:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. respectivley.
