WORCESTER, Mass. - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team (14-17-2) rallied past the Holy Cross Crusaders (7-22-3) in an overtime victory Friday night at Hart Center Rink by a score of 3-2.
Freshman forward Sam Morrison opened up the scoring for the Black Bears on a power play rebound in the first period and finished the game notching the overtime game-winner just thirty-six seconds into the extra period. Alyssa Wruble scored Maine's second goal on a breakaway top-shelf shot in the second period.
Holy Cross struck first, taking the lead in both the first and second periods but Maine responded quickly to both goals-against. The game ended with Maine outshooting the Crusaders 44 to 35, with goaltender Jorden Mattison making 33 saves for the Black Bears registering her sixth win of the season.
Mira Seregely, Elise Morphy, and Ida Kuoppala each earned an assist on the evening.
