ANTIOCH, Tenn. - The Boston University Women's Ice Hockey team secured a 3-1 victory over Robert Morris on Friday at the Ford Ice Center thanks to a three-goal first period.

BU jumped out to a three-goal lead by 16:40 in the opening frame. RMU got on the board in the second period but could not catch up to BU's lead.

Senior Catherine Foulem, junior Christina Vote and freshman Ella Huntley all found the back of the net for BU with Huntley's being the first of her collegiate career. Graduate student Alexa Matses made 27 saves in the win.

BU improves to 6-6-1 overall.


HOW IT HAPPENED

- After starting the game skating evenly, BU went on the penalty kill 8:37 into the period.

- Sophomores Maeve Kelly and Luisa Welcke took advantage of a loose puck and passed to Foulem who scored on the short-handed chance.

- The Terriers kept their momentum as senior Lacey Martin sent the puck to Foulem who found Vote to extend their lead to 2-0 at the 16:13 mark.

- BU wasted no time after the following faceoff as sophomores Lilli Welcke and Lu. Welcke set up Huntley for her first collegiate goal at 16:40 to close out the scoring in the first period.

- The Terriers went on the power play three times in the second frame but could not add to their lead.

- A BU penalty late in the second resulted in an RMU power play goal, its only goal of the game.

- The Colonials pulled their goalie to add an extra skater late in the third period but could not cut into BU's 3-1 lead.


GAME NOTES

- The Terriers narrowly outshot the colonials 30 to 28.

- BU won 31 faceoffs to RMU's 27.

- Kelly picked up her first assist of the season on the lamplighter.

- Junior Maggie Hanzel led BU in blocked shots with two.

- Lu. Welcke finished the game +3, the leader for BU in the category.
