PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The No. 14 Providence College women's hockey team defeated the University of Maine, 5-2, on Saturday, Feb. 25 at Schneider Arena in the quarterfinal round of the Hockey East Tournament. Brooke Becker recorded four assists and Hope Walinski finished with 30 saves for her second career win. The Friars, the No. 3 seed in the tournament, advance to the Hockey East semifinals to play the No. 2 seed Vermont Catamounts on Wednesday, March 1 in Burlington, Vt.

GAME FLOW & NOTES

- The Friars got on board first with a goal from Caroline Peterson (East Falmouth, Mass.) 12:11 into the first period. Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario) and Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) assisted the goal.

-The Black Bears tied the score, 1-1, when Grace Heiting scored at the 16:59 mark with help from Ida Kuoppala.

-Maine's Ida Kuoppala scored on a shorthanded breakaway 33 seconds into the second period to give the Black Bears a 2-1 lead.

-At the 15:18 mark of the second period, Ashley Clark (North Weymouth, Mass.) netted the Friars' second goal with help from Lily Hendrikson (Edina, Minn.) to tie the game at 2-2.

-Delaney Couture (Shrewsbury, Mass.) gave the Friars a 3-2 edge with a goal at 17:32. Maddy Coene (Clayton, N.Y.) and Brooke Becker were each credited with an assist.

-Sara Hjalmarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden) tallied a goal 1:11 into the final period off a pass from Noemi Neubauerova (Prague, Czech Republic) to extend the lead to 4-2. Becker earned the secondary assist.

-Peterson secured the last goal of the day at 18:18 of the third, making the final score 5-2. Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario) and Becker assisted the play, with Becker earning her fourth assist of the afternoon.

-With today's game, Peterson is now tied with Haley Lunny '22 for most games played in program history with 164 games.

-Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) finished the day with 30 saves in her third appearance of the season.
