PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Chase Yoder scored his seventh goal of the season 3:39 into overtime as the Providence College men's hockey team downed No. 18/19 UMass Lowell, 3-2, on Friday night (Feb. 17) at Schneider Arena.

NOTES

- The teams played through a scoreless opening period as the River Hawks rushed out to a 13-10 advantage in shots.

- Both teams were 0-for-2 on the man-advantage in the first period.

- The scoreless stretch remained until 17:47 into the second period when Brett Berard rifled home a shot from the right circle over the glove of Welsch on the power play for the junior's ninth goal of the season. Parker Ford and Luke Johnson earned the assist on the play.

- The River Hawks responded just 25 seconds later on a goal from Nick Rheaume and the teams went to the third period tied at 1-1.

- Philip Svedeback came up with a big stop on Stefan Owens as he went post-to-post to keep the game tied late.

- With the Friars on a late power play, Ford tallied his team-high 11th goal of the season with 2:24 remaining in regulation as he banked a shot off the leg of Welsch from a tough angle. Nick Poisson and Johnson earned the assists.

- Off the ensuing faceoff, Max Crozier was whistled for a penalty and the Rivers Hawks tied the game on the power play with 55.5 seconds remaining on a goal by Filip Fornaa Svensson. The Friars challenged the play for a possible high stick but the call on the ice stood.

- In overtime, Yoder took a pass from Guillaume Richard and finished off his own rebound after driving to the net to give the Friars the win.

- Providence played in their 12th overtime game this season and improved to 3-2-7 in those games.

- Luke Johnson recorded his first career multi-point game with two assists.

- The Friars earned their first overtime win over the River Hawks since Jan. 11, 2008.
